Newstead Open Studios art trail is a locally inspired and crafted event, held annually since 2015 and based in and around Newstead, in the heart of Victoria’s goldfields region. This, our tenth-year, features 10 studios with 17 artists participating.

A magpie with a broken leg is featured on a new mural at Old Bonalbo School. The magpie scores food all around the village. “Everyone thinks the magpie is their magpie,” a resident said.

Richmond Landcare is delighted to unveil the talented winners of the River of Reconciliation Art Award, a milestone initiative aimed at fostering reconciliation through the power of art ... The main prize was awarded to Tywana Caldwell for her captivating artwork titled "Baluun – River."

Nancy Whittaker. My first encounter with Carolyn Vickers was in the MANet Arts Focus Gallery a few months ago when we played ‘duelling camera phones’ ... Carolyn is the next featured artist in the aforesaid gallery ... Carolyn said that her works are her visual notes.

Allora locals had the opportunity to vote for their favourite mural to be painted on the wall of the IGA building. There was a good response of 567 votes with 375 going to the red-winged parrot design.

Gai Pritchett. Whilst the world is in turmoil artist Caroline Varendorff's beautiful paintings of nature in all its purity brings a calmness to the viewer. This local artist has exhibited extensively and now brings to Yamba her collection along with Caroline's husband Paul Varendorff who has included some of his ink sketches in the show.

“Visitors are welcome to our gallery where you can purchase paintings and learn more about the history of Papunya and its artists.” This message is on the Papunya Tjupi  website  and Yuendumu’s Warlukurlangu Artists  have a similar one. Meanwhile the plodding preparations continue for the bombastically named National Aboriginal Arts Gallery (NAAG) in Alice Springs.

Former Birchip P-12 student, Naomi McKenzie (Ferrier) has won the Emerging Artist award at this year’s prestigious Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA). Naomi’s winning artwork titled “Where We Meet” was a silver gelatin photographic piece, hand processed on metallic paper.

Well-known local artists Kerry and Malcolm Nicholson have taken out the top award at Sheffield’s International Mural Fest 2023 held this month in Tasmania. Kerry and Malcolm won the Inder Prize People’s Choice Award with their mural "The Spirit of Adventure".

Patrick Goldsmith. Warooka's art will come alive when augmented reality takes a hold of a new art project called Moving Murals, next year. Through the project, augmented reality enabled murals will be painted on easily accessible walls and structures in Warooka and further south, in a bid to extend the growth of regional art tourism trails on southern Yorke Peninsula and attract people to the town.

Adair Dunsford. A French oil painting which is part of the Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery’s permanent collection has been cleaned and restored. The picture, entitled Marche aux Fleurs or Flower Market by Edouard Cortes has been brought back to life through a grant from mining company, Australian Rare Earths.

The Allora mural designs have been completed and are ready for the Allora community to vote on the winning design. Artists Jordan and Steve have supplied an explanation on each of the designs and have taken on board the ideas so generously shared by the Allora community.

The stunning beauty of Grafton’s famous jacaranda trees is being captured forever on canvas by internationally acclaimed South Korean artist Kim Chang Han, who is visiting the Clarence Valley for the 2023 Grafton Jacaranda Festival … Mr Han said painting is one of his greatest enjoyments in life…

The exhibition is of Orthodox icons and includes pieces from eleven Australian collections, including six public institutions: Mona, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Art Gallery of South Australia, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the University of Sydney, and the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology, Caboolture.   Contributions from private collectors come from Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, and London ... This exhibition is the most significant collection of Orthodox icons presented in Australia that can be recalled ... The overall effect is surely one of surprise for the uninitiated and awe inspiring for the person who understands the genre.

The annual Spirit of the Land festival made its return over the weekend making Lockhart a haven for sculptures and fine arts. The event opened early on Saturday the 7th and finished off on the following Sunday with stalls, galleries, exhibitions and sculptures galore to enjoy.

Karin Donaldson asked well-known artist and teacher Uncle Eddy Harris how his life as an artist developed ... " In 1988, I started painting lizards and turtles on sandshoes. The King Neptune exhibition is on in the Downstairs Gallery in a recently revamped area, which was originally part of the gallery, until Sunday, October 1 ... Ewing said the gallery has been there for more than 20 years and they were planning something special for the gallery’s 21st anniversary in March.

Nine murals on nine overpasses on the Pacific Highway between Woolgoolga and Ballina have brightened the drive. The artworks depict nine stories from three Aboriginal nations of the region – Gumbaynggirr, Yaegl and Bundjalung.

Serena Kirby. Denmarks’s newest art gallery, The Mixing Pot, recently showcased an exhibition of works by artist and co-owner Christine Harrison. Titled ‘Looking into the World’ the exhibition included a series of paintings that explored the theme of grief in its many forms and various stages.

It’s full steam ahead now that the Southern Downs Regional Council has approved the mural for Allora. Community consultation meetings were held last week at Allora with the attendees given the opportunity to air their views and ideas on what they’d like to see depicted on our mural.
