Shire of Ashburton, Media Release, 24 June 2022

Davenport, who hails from regional WA, was selected by members of a community Art Selection Group and endorsed by Council this month.

The Shire of Ashburton have acquired the services of Perth based artist Jerome Davenport to complete the Onslow Water Tank Mural Project.

Drawing inspiration from the natural balance between beauty and decay, Jerome’s art weaves a magical realism that aims to preserve those moments in our lives we wish would never end.

With a loyal following and strong community support behind him, Davenport has been able to leave his colourful interpretation of life on blank walls around the world.

This artist selection comes after the Shire appointed Element Advisory in July 2021 to provide art consultancy services, assist the delivery of the project, and facilitate the process, ensuring a best practice approach is taken.

The Art Selection Working Group, made up of Onslow community members was guided by a terms of reference, and Council’s vision for the artwork.

Shire President Kerry White said Council is pleased to welcome Mr Davenport and looks forward to the continuation of the project.

“Council is pleased to continue the Onslow Water Tank Mural Project with the appointment of Jerome Davenport,” she said.

“The Mural Project provides a great opportunity to showcase what makes Onslow such a unique place to live.”

“With an extensive history, the Onslow Tank Murals will highlight to new members of our community and travellers, the different facets of the region that make the town what it is today.”

The project is expected to be completed within the next financial year.
