Painting can sure be thirsty work

Appreciating a cocktail or two while creating their very own Van Gogh-inspired art piece was how about 40 Mount Isa residents spent their Saturday night.

The Paint and Sip experience, hosted by Winton-based artist and painting instructor Emma Read, took patrons through step-by-step instructions in painting a field of sunflowers under a blue sky.

“The piece on the night was based on Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and The Starry Night mixed together,” Ms Read said.

Workshop attendees received three hours of art tuition, all art equipment, aprons, canvases, two espresso martinis and chances to win prizes throughout the evening.

Guests also had a choice of gourmet grazing trays provided by Redearth’s chefs that included bite sized nibbles that paired with the night’s theme drink.

Ms Read, who was born in Charters Towers, said she was excited to be in Mount Isa.

“I had a fabulous time and I think this makes eight events here,” she said.

“It’s always a joy to see guests come in reserved and worried they can’t paint. “They say, ‘I can’t even draw a stick man’.

Well, that’s exactly my target market.

“Then I watch them leave with big smiles and lots of confidence, taking home a masterpiece, it’s the highlight of my sessions.” Some of the people who attended are regulars to Ms Read’s art events. “I have a group of girls that has come to nearly all eight events,” she said.

“That’s what I really take pride in, running a fun and exciting party where everyone can interact with each other and have a good laugh.

“There’s always some jokers and comedians in the group that make it that extra bit fun and that’s what you want, people coming out of their shell.

“Customer satisfaction is my highest priority.”
