The Painted Years of a 90 year old artist

Recent stories

Age is no barrier to doing what you love. Artist Anthea Moffat turned 90 as her exhibition The Painted Years opened at the Roxy Gallery in Kyogle this month.

There is still time to see her work. The exhibition has been open since early September and will close on October 9. The Painted Years tells the story of the artist’s life, the many places she has lived and the fond links to these places.

Anthea has lived in Kyogle for many years and during this time she has been involved with the Roxy Gallery in both group and solo exhibitions.

Anthea began her painting studies at East Sydney Technical Collage. She went on to teach art before going overseas to travel in  the UK and Europe. She worked as a commercial artist in Jamaica.

When she returned to Australia, she went back to her studies and did an associate diploma in printmaking at Canberra School of Arts.

The Painted Years is a body of paintings that are “partly my background of where I have lived and an exposition of the joy of life,” Anthea said.

The exhibition is on show at the Roxy Gallery, Summerland Way, Kyogle until October 9.
