Narrandera High celebrates return of NAIDOC Day activities

Recent stories

Narrandera High School finally celebrated NAIDOC Day, its first in three years, with the Welcome to Country and Didgeridoo welcome setting the scene for a day of inclusivity and education.

The highlight of the day was the final event – the commissioning of the Stewart James mural.

Stuart explained the symbols and significance of the artwork, which is an extraordinary example of Aboriginal culture that will now form a permanent part of the Narrandera High School landscape.

Dancers were joined by students from all years to present three local dances and emotion and energy was hair-raising.

Each Year group cycled through a series of actvities including:

  • Dance – led by Neville Bamblett, Xavier Beachamp, and local rangers Ben, Malek and Shane
  • Aboriginal art – led by Ms Golding and Mrs Mallamace
  • Aboriginal Language presented by Ms Lyons and Uncle Roley
  • Aboriginal games coached by Joy O’Hara, Glen Borg and Mikey Salafia
  • Aboriginal weaving demonstrated by Richard Gilbert, Mrs Hoogers, Mrs Gilmour and Mrs Vidler.

A barbecue lunch was cooked with the assistance of Clontarf members.
