Agriculture Victoria’s Horsham SmartFarm recently provided local students hands-on experience of climate action research, with a focus on preserving important grains and plants for the future. The visit was by a group of students who are currently studying Agricultural and Horticultural Science at Goroke P-12 College.

Young car joyriders likened the adrenalin rush from car theft to the effects of drug or alcohol use. Some noted, yet often disregarded, fears of death or injury as the result of a car accident. And the prospect of gaining, or losing, a job is a stronger motivator than incarceration for joyriders.

Australia's most promising judges of Merino sheep have been announced by Agricultural Shows Australia as eligible to compete in the national finals of the prestigious annual competition to be judged next month. The competition brings together the best young judges and paraders aged from 15 to 25 in each state to compete at the national finals.

Dre Jackson from Elliott and Duqarn Foster from Tennant Creek were chosen to represent the NT at Australian School Sport Australian Football Championships held in NSW. The cold conditions had all the players making sure their beanies and scarfs were in great use off the field.

Local stakeholders were invited for a tour of the Tennant Creek Youth Centre a week ahead of its soft opening next Friday. The Youth Centre will open just in time for the school holidays at a soft opening from 3pm next Friday afternoon with a disco, laser tag, games and action on the ninja course.

The Unit Two Agriculture and Horticulture students as well as the Years Nine and Ten Geography class attended the Agsmart expo in Bendigo ... The expo highlighted the newer technologies available and currently being developed in the Agricultural and Horticultural space.

Cambooya State School celebrated a huge achievement in August, winning the Queensland P&C Award for Fundraising Impact and taking home a $2000 cheque for the school ... Despite its small size, Cambooya State School has wonderful volunteers who are always keen to help and do their utmost to support their students and school.

Allora P-10 Student Ellie Pidgeon was named the most outstanding Girl Athlete at the Darling Downs Track and Field Championship held in Toowoomba for both junior and secondary aged students. Ellie came first in three events...

Wooli Public School welcomed more than 170 kindergarten to Year 2 students from several Clarence Valley schools when they hosted the 2023 K-2 Traditional Indigenous Games at Wooli Sports Oval on September 6 … participants took part in a number of modified activities and games which were based on the skills and learning resources taught to First Nations children hundreds of years ago.

Future Wallabies stars were on show at Yamba over the weekend as the Ngayundi Sports Complex hosted hundreds of children from across the state for the under 12 and 13, 2023 NSW Country Rugby Union Championships ... The Far North Coast under 13 side, coached by the Lower Clarence’s Dane Mitchell, impressed in every one of its four games, scoring more than 100 points while keeping their opposition score to zero.

Alyssa Brown and Magpie run around the Bonalbo Showgrounds enjoying their game of chasey. The Brown family are used to being on the road travelling to dog trials. Alyssa, her brother Nathan and their father Phil competed in the NSW Working Stock Dog Association State Championship trials at Bonalbo.

The Interschools Show Jumping series was started in Victoria in 2008 to promote the sport in the school community over courses designed by professionals at safe, purpose-built venues. In 2023, the series celebrated its 15th year with more than 200 schools represented at the three shows.

Over the weekend we had Under 14.5s have an impressive win for the semi-final against Trentham - which sets them up nicely for the next finals clash … The Club encourages its supporters to head over to Princess Park this weekend and support both our junior footballers and netballers.  

Every September, Women’s Health Week is celebrated with a different theme every year. For this year, the theme was "Grow your Knowledge". Bec Way, the local school nurse … organised a day out at the Juno Centre for primary school students.

National Child Protection Week is a week-long event that takes place from 3-9 September every year ... Along with educational activities, children also got the chance to explore a fire truck, use the hose to water the oval and interact with service providers.

Berat local and Allora Swim Club member, Maeve Moore, recently competed at the School Sport Australia National Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre as part of the Queensland Swim Team. Maeve made the finals in the 50 breastroke and swam a personal best time of 38.88 to finish fourth place in the country.

Allora swimmer Bailey Harm has returned from the School Sport Australia National Championships in Sydney with a 2023 SSA National Champion title in the 50m Freestyle sprint. Bailey competed in seven events at the Championships, bringing home six national medals.

Remote Concrete NT officially handed over the keys to the Tennant Creek Youth Centre to Barkly Regional Council this week. Remote Concrete NT’s Managing Director Jared Baldwin met with Acting Mayor Russell O’Donnell met at the site for the celebratory occasion on Wednesday.

Vale View State School students are off to Melbourne for the national Robocup championships after success in Brisbane at the state championships. The Vale View State School community was absolutely thrilled with the amazing achievements of talented Vale View students at the recent Robocup Junior State Championships ... Our small school has again made its mark on the state, dominating the categories entered!
