Four transmission towers have been erected as the clean-up starts after the huge storms that have left the city in darkness ... Once all seven towers are up, the conductors will be strung and once they are clipped in and it is safe to do so, the towers will be energised, according to the Transgrid spokesman...

Generators arrive to remote towns in Far West

It was announced at midday Saturday ... that power has been restored, via generator, to customers living in rural areas outside of Broken Hill, after Essential Energy completed aerial inspections of the power network and confirmed it was safe to re-energise. More than 12,000 customers were impacted by unplanned outages following a storm that moved through the area on Wednesday night, bringing down transmission towers and causing damage to the electricity network.

Emily McInerney. Broken Hill City Council Mayor Tom Kennedy has been voted in for his second term, with a staggering 70 per cent vote. Mayor Kennedy said he was proud of the response he received from the community at the September local government elections. Of the 13,000 registered voters, Mayor Kennedy received 7,419 votes.

A Home in the Outback was established in 2024 by Katherine Waite, a writer, interviewer and communications consultant based in Broken Hill, New South Wales.

A Home in the Outback is a multi-media service for the far west of NSW producing podcast, writing stories for the web and producing a hardcopy newsletter.

A Home in the Outback is part of the Local and Independent News Association (LINA) and commits to its editorial standards.

As founding editor, Katherine Waite is an experienced writer and interview with more than 15 years’ experience working in media and communications including time as an ABC journalist. She builds rapport and trust with interviewees to guide them in sharing their story. 

She has written freelance articles for the Law Society Journal of NSW and others.

In 2024 She was awarded a Country Arts Suppot Program (CASP) Grant by West Darling Arts to help establish herself as a content creator and producer in the Far West of NSW.
