Swim champion Maeve Moore makes a splash

Recent stories

Berat local and Allora Swim Club member, Maeve Moore, recently competed at the School Sport Australia National Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre as part of the Queensland Swim Team.

Maeve made the finals in the 50 breastroke and swam a personal best time of 38.88 to finish fourth place in the country.

Maeve also swam in both the medley and freestyle events for Queensland, with her team coming 5th place in both of these events.

The 11 year old was the only female in the Darling Downs region to qualify for the 10-12 yrs National Championships this year, securing her place after winning a silver medal in the 50 breaststroke event at Queensland School States in March.

Maeve had the added challenge of Nationals being held during the swimming off season, when the Allora pool is closed over the winter months.

Her coach, Andrew Fidge, travelled twice per week from Toowoomba to WIRAC in Warwick to fit in some training in amongst Maeve’s other commitments to athletics and netball.

Maeve is looking forward to October, when the Allora Pool will reopen and she can recommence squad training and swim club activities.
