Ben Hawke. The great Tomo peacefully weighed anchor from Mosman Bay for the final time early yesterday afternoon surrounded by his family at home. Born in Katowice Poland, he lived a grand life, sailed many miles, had many great adventures and brought inspiration and a positive light to all that graced his path.
Maldon’s First Notable Town signs
Lee Mead. As you probably already know, Maldon township was discovered by heritage architects during the 1960s and recognised as having a significant number of original, unique, intact gold-mining era buildings and streetscapes. And as a consequence, was declared Victoria’s First Notable Town by the National Trust.

Burst water main
Many residents on the south side of Maldon came home to find that their taps were not issuing water last Friday afternoon ... Troy Waterhouse, aptly named, exceptionally good-natured and covered in mud, spent at least an hour in the sludgy pit by the side of the road, scooping out water and fixing the main so that water delivery was restored to residents in reasonable time.

Writ issued: Countdown on for NT election
The 2024 Territory Election election period officially began today with the issuance of the writ authorising the NT Electoral Commission (NTEC) to oversee the electoral proceedings in accordance with the Electoral Act 2004. Nominations for candidates in the upcoming election are officially opened ... So far there are only two candidates for the Barkly, CLP’s incumbent Member Steve Edgington and Labor’s Lizzie Hogan.
Students savour snow experience on the slopes of Mount Bogong!
During Week 2 of Term 3, eighteen excited Year 10 students embarked on the highly anticipated Snow Camp at Bogong Outdoor School. With recent snowfall creating perfect conditions and snow levels reaching 80cm, the stage was set for an unforgettable experience.

As The Buloke Times goes to print, a very tired, but excited Charlotte McCarthy is jetting home from London with her mum Alecia, after competing in the World Line Dancing Championships. Charlotte won a gold medal in the Quad section and a silver medal in the Duo section.
Future “Made in Australia” needs water to make it happen

That’s according to Kristi McLachlan, who’s the Regional Director of Water Australia Asia for Hatch, a global multidisciplinary leader in urban solutions, engineering, operational and development projects in metals, energy and infrastructure.
New homes ready for tenants, tender awarded for 6 more
Four new homes in Tennant Creek are ready for tenants, and a construction tender has been awarded for a further six. The one-bedroom units at 86 Peko Road will augment the public housing stock in Tennant Creek.
An entertaining long lunch
The Allora Regional Sports Museum held another one of their popular Long Lunches at the Commercial Hotel on Friday. Queensland State of Origin Legends Shane Webcke, Trevor (the Axe) Gillmeister and Ben Ikin entertained the crowd with plenty of good football yarns including the many tricks played by Alfie Langer on his mates.
A champion – going for gold
That’s Allora’s Matthew Denny who is currently in Paris for the Olympic Games. In 2015 Matthew made his Senior Debut with the Australia Team for the World University Games. Since then Matthew has been improving with each national competition and breaking records along the way.
New Agriculture Minister – same Labor policies
Leader of The Nationals and member for Maranoa David Littleproud has said the appointment of a new Agriculture Minister won’t change the Federal Labor Government’s litany of disastrous decisions that have impacted the agricultural sector in just two years. Julie Collins has inherited the agriculture portfolio after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reshuffled his cabinet and moved Senator Murray Watt to Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.

Robert Borsak expresses deep concerns over RSPCA’s role in Brumby Shooting Program
Member of the NSW Legislative Council, The Hon. Robert Borsak MLC, has voiced significant concerns during ... Inquiry hearing regarding the Brumby Shooting Program in Kosciuszko National Park. Mr. Borsak's apprehensions were sparked by the responses provided by the RSPCA, which he argues demonstrate a worrying lack of expertise and practical knowledge about aerial shooting, ballistics and the animals being targeted.
FCNSW fined for breaking bushfire harvesting rules: EPA
Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW) has been fined $360,000 for breaching conditions imposed by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to help the recovery of the Yambulla State Forest, near Eden, after the Black Summer fires. FCNSW plead guilty to two offences in the Land and Environment Court ... after it failed to identify two environmentally significant areas on its operational map, resulting in 53 eucalypt trees being cut down in one of those areas.
Local Govt councils discuss working together to boost potential of their regions
Building Community Trust, aimed ‘to explore the critical importance of trust in governments, between governments, its institutions and its citizens’ was the theme for the 2024 Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly. Narrandera Shire Council Deputy Mayor Sue Ruffles represented Narrandera Council at the event.

As the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) and the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder (CEWH) continue to change the rules in their favour, irrigation communities are proposing a dramatic change that aims to benefit food producers and Australia’s largest irrigator, the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder.
Heritage village embraced
The people of Moulamein and district have embraced their Moulamein Heritage Village (MHV). Taking just over four years to complete, we reconstructed our first historic building, Jeraly wool shed, in 2020 … just completed the cultural infrastructure around the village … includes a large sealed car park with designated disabled car parking spaces and magnificent wide concrete pathways linking the car park to all the buildings on site.
