Burst water main

Recent stories

Many residents on the south side of Maldon came home to find that their taps were not issuing water last Friday afternoon, 26 July. It was annoying, it was frustrating and it came just as the sun came down at the time to start thinking about cooking dinner.

A burst water main on the corner of Newstead- Maldon Road and Gray Street had caused the problem and a team of workers from Coliban Water arrived quickly to attend to it. They helpfully explained that the pipe had broken due to wear and that records showed that the pipe had been installed in 1971, diplomatically adding, “So it’s not even that old.”

Troy Waterhouse, aptly named, exceptionally good-natured and covered in mud, spent at least an hour in the sludgy pit by the side of the road, scooping out water and fixing the main so that water delivery was restored to residents in reasonable time. In fact, frustration ebbed away like a leak at the realisation that the problem required such a cold, grimy and filthy fix.
