School kids provide revegetation
Both Barham and Deniliquin High School students attended Barham Lakes to complete revegetation work. Almost 200 terrestrial plants grown at Tulla Natives and many aquatic species transferred from within the local area were planted, assisted by Western Murray Land Improvement Group, Traditional Owners from the Moama Local Aboriginal Land Council, Deniliquin Landcare and volunteers.

The winners were announced at the Coraki Art Prize Gala Night at the Coraki Youth Hall ... Organiser Tanya Alderman said there were more than 100 youth entries. Best in Show went to Hollie McKenzie from Whian Whian for her artwork I Feel Alive but Can’t Complain. She won $2000 sponsored by Casino RSM Club.

Those who work in the social service sector in Alice Springs, as I do, know this fact intimately: there is an incredible amount of money funding our response to a community who have incredibly little. Our system watches as desperate people stumble and waits for them to fall before extending a paternalistic hand or one gripped around a gavel.
2024 ALPA South Australia Young Auctioneers competition winner – Josh Pahl
Mark Thiele. SAL are both excited and proud of the achievement of one of our young livestock agents, Josh Pahl, in winning the SA leg of the National Young Livestock Auctioneers award. Josh was selected as the SA winner from 3 very good young auctioneers from SA and interestingly all 4 of the finalists come from the SE of the state.
Clifton Benchrest Shooting Club hosts interschool shoot
On the 11th of October, members of the Rimï¬re discipline in conjunction with Clifton State High School hosted an interschool shoot. The event saw 60 students from 9 different schools across both the Southern and Darling Downs competing for bragging rights.
Denmark brothers win National Enduro bike title
Karis Aplin. Denmark brothers Jy and Jake Drummond became National Champions over the weekend at the Auscycling MTB Enduro National and Oceania Championships in Collie. The enduro racing format involves riders racing against the clock in a series of downhill stages, with the final results coming down to the millisecond.

How many adults would know where to start if asked to program a robot? But that’s exactly what a bunch of students from our local primary schools did at the First Lego League Competition held in the Clifton State High School Hall last Friday.
Street works impact on youth centre
Despite a number of delays caused by the Corryong streetscape project, the re-opening of the Youth Space in Hanson Street will go ahead tomorrow. In 2021, Upper Murray Innovation Foundation (UMIF) - the Corryong Neighbourhood Centre (CNC) Community Foundation - received a federal Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant to refurbish and re-equip the Youth Space at 42 Hanson Street.
Judd Chislett claims double victory in senior titles
Drew Chislett. In an exhilarating display of skill and determination, young motocross rider Judd Chislett has made headlines by clinching two titles in his first year competing in the Victorian Senior motocross titles. The 16-year-old talent achieved a clean sweep, dominating all four rounds of the Senior Victorian Titles (C Grade) held at Portland, Shepparton, Albury and the final round at Blue Rock near Moe.
Lowering the age, ram raid and ‘posting and boasting’ laws pass: Finocchiaro, Maley
The CLP Government’s legislation to lower the age of criminal responsibility to 10, and introduce new ram raid, and posting and boasting laws, have been passed in Parliament ... The CLP Government said ignoring 10 and 11-year-olds who commit serious crimes was not the answer to turning around their lives, or protecting the wider community. Since 1 July, there have been more than 104 instances involving youths, aged 10 and 11, in the commission of offences in the Territory.
Riverine Grazier takes a stand to protect children
The Riverine Grazier has made a decision to not publish images of children under the age of 13 online, in a move aimed to protect local kids. At the invitation of the NSW Government and representing Country Press NSW, Grazier manager Krista Schade attended the Social Media Summit ... "The eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant spoke of the hazards of sharing images of children online, on open pages, which prompted Tertia and I to reconsider how our newspaper handles images of young children."

Youth Fest 2024 comes to an end with action-packed skate park fun
Greater Shepparton Youth Fest 2024 wrapped up ... with a day full of action at the Shepparton Skate Park, marking the successful conclusion of a month-long celebration dedicated to youth. The day included a learn-to-skate workshop and an exciting BMX, Skate, and Scoot competition, judged by international expert Renton Millar.
Declan’s Law ready to be introduced to Parliament next week: Finocchiaro
The CLP Government will deliver on its promise to introduce Declan’s Law in the first sittings of Parliament, commencing next Tuesday. Under Declan’s Law, Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said there would be a presumption against bail for youth and adult serious violent offenders, regardless of whether a weapon is involved.

A hugely popular primary school showdown, pre-Covid-19, it was regularly pulling 90 or more contestants from years 4, 5 and 6 in schools across Gannawarra Shire.
New youth mental health service
Serena Kirby. An increase in children experiencing mental health crises and presenting at the region’s emergency departments has led to a new crisis response service. Run by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, the acute care response team will be based in Albany but will cover Denmark and the Great Southern.
Taskforce Guardian charges 22 in Darling Downs deployment
Taskforce Guardian alongside Toowoomba police have charged 22 young people with 78 offences and diverted 11 young people from the youth justice system, during the ninth deployment to the Darling Downs. Between September 9 and 16, Taskforce Guardian partnered with local police to conduct high-visibility police patrols, finalise open investigations, target active serious offending and engage at-risk or offending young people and their caregivers with support services and agencies.

Free access to our libraries – university opens its doors to help Year 12 students study for the HSC: Charles Sturt University
Charles Sturt University is opening its doors to Year 11 and 12 students to give them the best chance at success for their HSC exams. The University will open its libraries across its Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga, Orange, Bathurst, Dubbo and Port Macquarie campuses, as well as online, to allow students free access to study spaces and educational materials.
Year 10 work experience
During the last week of Term 4 Nhill College had their Year 10s out on Work Experience. Students were placed in Adelaide, Bordertown, Kaniva, Nhill, Rainbow, Horsham, Bendigo, Ballarat and Melbourne.
