Cadets honoured with memorial role

After many years of dedicated community support and tireless advocacy by local volunteers, the Australian Army Cadets has officially established a permanent presence in Corryong ... "In a remarkable show of community confidence, the newly formed detachment was entrusted with a significant ceremonial responsibility - emceeing for the official opening of the new memorial on the Corryong Avenue of Honour on Anzac Day," said Captain ACC, Dale Manley.

Our fallen will never be forgotten

On a wet and cold day - 29th August 1918 - a large gathering of members of the community attended the official opening of the Corryong and District Avenue of Honour ... On Anzac Day 2026, community members again gathered at the Avenue of Honour to officially open a new memorial.

Gun makes it ten titles

The undoubted highlight of the Man From Snowy River Bush Festival was the performance of Emma Webb in the Ladies Challenge whose victory gave her a 10th title ... Despite the current fuel crisis, crowds were comparable to previous years and once again, camping on the Corryong golf course and nearby properties was booked out.

Light Horse skills not lost

The Walwa Recreation Reserve echoed to the sound of hoof beats on Monday when teams competed in the Maygar Memorial Trophy which showcases the expertise that mounted troops used in the Boer War and World Wars I and II.

New trail tracks our heritage through verse

An entirely different High Country experience will soon be available for locals and visitors alike to learn more about our region through the writings of one Australia's most famous poets. The Banjo Paterson High Country Trail will connect the landscapes that inspired the poet's iconic verse in the Victorian High Country such as The Man from Snowy River.

Councils feel the crunch

A cut in fuel excise to make petrol more affordable and a push for more Victorians to use public transport instead of driving are welcome measures to help navigate the fuel crisis, according to Rural Councils Victoria. The 50 per cent excise cut will mean immediate relief at the bowser for rural residents and business operators including farmers.
