Event organiser, Andrew Gibbs, gave a passionate speech to the crowd as he expressed the disgust and injustice of the decision by the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank to close 16 agencies, including Pyramid Hill, Cohuna and Barham.

Long distance relationships for Buloke’s police officers

Jesse Wray-McCann. When a 200-kilometre drive from one end of your policing patch to the other is the same distance as travelling a quarter of the way across Victoria, it pays to be close to your community and your colleagues. The 10 police officers across six stations – Donald, Charlton, Wycheproof, Culgoa, Sea Lake and Birchip – that make up the Buloke Shire cluster make it their mission to keep connected with everyone around them.

Buloke aged care decision

The provision of these services has been an important part of the Buloke Shire Council’s operations for nearing 40 years; however, with the comprehensive changes to be introduced as the Commonwealth Government progressively reforms the national aged care system, Buloke, like many other Councils, has reviewed its position and decided to exit service.

Query on wheat prices

This newspaper [The Buloke Times], in the past, has queried the government’s decision to take away the single desk for export from the Australian Wheat Board, an organisation which evened out the returns to growers, and was generally respected by the industry. Now there are claims that the good seasonal conditions have not been reflected in the returns to growers in recent years, and some companies with a larger share of the export trade have acted in “monopolistic” ways.

Time to pause at the Old Police Camp – a reviver by the river

Few countries worldwide have such lengths of road, or greater need for drivers to stay alert for every moment of their time behind the wheel. That is one reason why the Victorian State Emergency Service (VICSES) volunteers, together with Lions Clubs, Rotary and RSL, operate more than 45 Driver Reviver sites around the state on holiday weekends, and peak traffic days, offering motorists a safe place to stop and refresh.

Goodbye Stawell: Bendigo Bank agency closure marks the end for community banking

Residents of Stawell and surrounding towns have been deserted for the greener pastures of the digital realm, with Bendigo and Adelaide Bank suggesting that an investment shift toward phone and internet banking services is behind a decision to permanently close the Bendigo Bank Agency located at Fosters Mensland in Stawell ... With an aging demographic, many residents in Northern Grampians Shire rely on consistent face-to-face interaction and prefer to bank with representatives they know and trust.

A fair to remember

The Maldon Easter Fair has once again drawn thousands of visitors to the enchanting town, leaving everyone in awe of its remarkable community. The 146th event had it all; an ambitious celebration of the humble scone, a genuine back street billy cart race and a vividly picturesque street parade.

For the love of cars

The people who love cars are like a family, of sorts. “Once you’ve been bitten by the bug,” said Greg, “it stays with you for life.” And for Greg, Leanne, and Andrew, this love of cars has been the driving factor in them deciding to host Charlton’s very own (and very first) Show ‘N’ Shine, coming up on April 29-30.

Maldon Freemasons
