Logan McNeil has passed 50 career wins and now sits at 52 wins. With horse racing still active during the Victorian lockdown without crowds, it is quiet at the races. The loudest sound is of horse hoofs hitting the turf and the tinging of metal buckles, bits and reins.

2021 July Racing Carnival a galloping success

More than 7000 people attended the carnival with the largest crowds heading trackside to watch the Grafton District Services Club Ramornie Handicap and Maclean Hotel Grafton Cup on July 7 and 8 respectively.

Investment in the South Australian racing industry is paying dividends with the arrival of leading South African training partnership Gary and Dean Alexander, who are relocating their operations to the training centre of excellence being developed at Murray Bridge. The multiple Group 1-winning trainers decided last year to move their base from South Africa’s premier racecourse, Turffontein in Johannesburg, to South Australia, with the development of the world-class facilities at Murray Bridge a deciding factor in the move.

The winning jockey of the 2020 Melbourne Cup, Jye McNeil, is getting behind the fundraiser, ‘We’re Here for Langy,’ to assist hometown boy James Lang and his family. James was left paralysed from the waist down as a result of a motorbike accident earlier this year. Jye is donating all proceeds from the auction of a limited edition 2020 Melbourne Cup – Twilight Payment framed display to the fund.

Saturday’s meeting will see the first use of the barriers donated to the club by the Murrumbidgee Turf Club. Narrandera’s old barriers were in turn donated to the Jerilderie Race Club.
