Sinclair kicks off Golden Triangle with treble

Peter Sinclair kicked off the Golden Triangle of racing in fine style at Moree Picnics on Saturday, preparing three winners on the six-race-program. In yet another successful day at his home track, Sinclair trained the winner of the feature event on the program, with Liberty Head taking out the 1400m Boolooroo Moree Picnic Cup for jockey Michael Johnston.

Quirindi prepares for popular Willow Tree Cup meeting

Saturday’s Willow Tree Cup meeting at Quirindi Jockey Club is shaping up as a big event both on and off the track. 112 runners have been nominated for the six-race-program which will be headlined by the Willow Tree Cup, a 1000m Benchmark 50 Handicap that has attracted 25 potential runners.

Pollard’s time to shine at Port

There is no better thrill than an initial victory and this was the story for the connections of Pollard following a dashing display in the De Bortoli Wines Maiden Plate at Port Macquarie on Monday. The son of Love Conquers All had shown plenty of promise early in his career and had amassed eight placings and plenty of followers with an exciting pattern of racing on the speed and trying to sustain a large lead in the home straight.

Catherine Grimley. After having missed out on the races last year due to COVID-19, Tennant Creek certainly made up for it last Saturday with the Tennant Turf Club Two Cup Race Day. The ladies dusted off their long unused gladrags, hats and high heels and there were more suits about than have been seen in a good long while as everyone dressed up to give race day a sense of occasion that has been missing for too long.

2021 Australian Racing Hall of Fame inductees announced

Tie the Knot, Darby McCarthy, Les Bridge and Bob Charley are among the list of 10 thoroughbred racing greats to be elevated to the Australian Racing Hall of Fame (ARHOF) in Adelaide next month. The ARHOF spreads across four categories – horses, trainers, jockeys and associates – and induction is regarded as racing’s ultimate achievement, with the ceremony an opportunity to formally honour those who have left indelible marks on the sport.

Faatinaat continues the Milligan dominance at Port

After a stellar period for the stable over the last couple of months, the Milligan family continued their successful run when Faatinaat landed the prize in the John Oxley Motors Benchmark 58 Handicap at Port Macquarie on Monday. Oh my, I was in for a treat, feeling like a kid at the lolly shop, eyes wide and smiles everywhere. I was treated to an all-area pass, and I made the most of it. I spoke to jockeys, trainers, owners and volunteers, absorbing as much as I could to learn more about horse racing—everything from horse earmuffs to shoes.

Prospero claims dramatic Easter Cup win at Port

Rod Fuller. A dashing ride from the tail of the field by Dylan Gibbons resulted in victory to Prospero in an action-packed Easter Cup at the Port Macquarie race meeting on Saturday. Gibbons was content to settle the Nathan Doyle trained gelding well behind the early leaders, Bay of Bengal and Za Za Zena, before making a move around the field down the side of the track.

Leeton jockey Breanna Bourke booted home the winner of the Nutrien Ag Solutions Ardlethan Cup, Let’s Get Animal, for trainer Maddi Collins on Saturday. This was her first ride back after 10 months on the sideline after having a fall ... more than 2000 racegoers attended the meeting to enjoy the racing and fashions on the field.

Rain causes Port Macquarie racing cancellation

Following a deluge of rain over the past few days and the promise of further heavy downpours on race day, Racing NSW Stewards had little alternative but to cancel the race meeting scheduled for Port Macquarie on Friday where the Lisa Sheppard trained Racketeering had been scheduled to run.
