Lara's campaign has a personal and heartfelt touch, as she isn’t just raising funds but is also sacrificing her hair to provide her mother with a natural wig during the tough times ahead.
Website relaunch for Purple Starfish
Purple Starfish Kaniva re-launched its website this week ... The new website features makers, volunteers and customers. It builds on the Visit Victoria campaign of supporting local artisans and makers with the ‘Meet the Maker’ stories of the creators behind the products.

Wind farm for Wilkur
WestWind Energy, a leading renewable energy company, is delighted to announce the proposed development of a wind farm in Wilkur, Victoria. The newly proposed Wilkur Energy Park project, located in the Buloke Shire and Yarriambiack Shire, approximately 11km southwest of the township of Birchip, will feature approximately 97 modern wind turbines that are set to power approximately 517,000 homes.
Free forums for local fishing and boating
Recreational fishers and boaters from all corners of the state will again have the chance to discuss their much-loved pastimes and share ideas to make fishing even better at a series of free Fishing and Boating Forums. These forums, hosted by local fishing clubs, have become an annual tradition, with this year marking the third consecutive instalment.
Waterbirds flock to Mallee floodplains
Scientists have been out in the field surveying wetlands and waterbirds across the region’s floodplains. With many wetlands and creeks still containing water due to recent flooding, there has been an influx of water-birds across our region. Scientists have been monitoring bird abundance, diversity, and breeding activity to assess aquatic ecology health to compare data collected from dry years.

Common sense prevails for Basin Plan projects: VFF
The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) welcomes the Albanese Government’s decision to extend the timeframe for implementing the Murray-Darling Basin Plan. VFF Water Council Chair Andrew Leahy said common sense had prevailed following Minister Tanya Plibersek’s announcement to allow efficiency projects to progress and be counted towards the Plan’s targets.
Check your garage for fire hazards
A surge in garage fires across the state has Victorian fire services encouraging residents to clean up their garage and consider installing smoke alarms inside. Many of the reported garage fires in the last year were caused by faulty electrical equipment or related to fuel spills.
Planned burns case labelled “irresponsible”
The Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria (MCAV) is calling on environmental groups to consider the long-term ramifications of their actions after it came to light that a Federal Court case against planned burns was underway... President of the MCAV, Cass McCormack, said it was yet again proof that continued scientific, academic and anecdotal evidence was being ignored.

Agencies finished – Local Bendigo Bank agencies closed
With the Bendigo Bank’s departures, Barham will be left with the post office as an alternative and Cohuna having a NAB on limited hours and a post office. One shop owner expressed shock that services the agency performed for free (with no reimbursement by the bank) would now cost $8 at Australia Post.
