UBX releases new single
Former Tennant Creek rockers – Unbroken Expanse (UBX) – have released what they call a “killer” new single and music video. Bootstrap Billy tells the tale of this mythical character who knows how to spin a yarn, keen for a good time and loves a drink and a laugh.
Massive Murray Paddle
Alesha Millard. In its 52nd year, one of the world’s longest paddling races, the Massive Murray Paddle, was held last week ... The paddle commenced in Yarrawonga on February 21 and headed to Tocumwal for the first night – a 93km paddle. Paddlers also passed through Picnic Point, Moama, Torrumbarry and Murrabit, before finishing in Swan Hill on the 25th. The five-day event saw paddlers completing a 404km set course.
Former Weipa boss takes the reins of ASX company
History was made last week when Brad Welsh was named as the first Indigenous Australian to lead an ASX-listed minerals company. Welsh was named as the CEO and managing director of Energy Resources Australia in the Northern Territory.
Rebuilt supermarket opens next week!
Local shoppers rejoice! After almost two years after Tennant Creek’s only supermarket was damaged by arsonists, the rebuilt store will open its doors next Thursday morning. The multi-million dollar rebuild will likely mean Tennant Creek will enjoy one of the flashiest supermarkets rarely seen in remote communities.
Threeways Roadhouse hits the market
The Barkly’s iconic Threeways Roadhouse is up for sale. Calling for expressions of interest by Colliers, the roadhouse first sold fuel in the 1960s from a 44-gallon drum until Shell developed the present site including the roadhouse.
Mozzie Mob helping Tennant eliminate dengue mosquito
A dengue mosquito elimination program is gaining traction in Tennant Creek, a year since the dengue mosquito, Aedes aegypti, was found in the town. A team of five NT Health staff, known to the locals as the Mozzie Mob, are conducting property inspections to review backyard items that can hold water to treat them for mosquito eggs or larvae.
Barkly Plumbing takes out Territory-wide business award
Barkly Plumbing Services has taken out a major award in the Chamber of Commerce NT’s Territory wide Business Excellence and Customer Service Awards. The family-owned business took out the Best Business in the Small to Medium category.
Talking Water – Kwatye Angkeme: A campaign to address Alice Springs’ water future
Tracy Jones, Desert Knowledge Australia. A group of local organisations and independent parties have joined forces in Alice Springs, NT, with the support of the Northern Territory Government, to address the town’s water future. The Talking Water Collective delivered a short, intense campaign during October-November 2021 to prompt awareness and build stewardship around the town’s water security, sharing key facts about water resources and consumption, and contributing to the NT's Strategic Water Plan.
The great Local Authority debate: Should it stay or should it go?
Barkly Regional Council is urging residents and ratepayers to have their say whether the Tennant Creek Local Authority (TCLA) should continue. A questionnaire on the Council’s website is asking for input to decide if the local Authority, funded to the tune of $100,000 a year, is viable.

Building the bush: $15 million tender for Maningrida homes
The Territory Labor Government has awarded a $15 million tender to Northern Territory company GT Builders to construct homes in the remote community of Maningrida ... Further tenders have been released for major projects in Central Australia, Gunbalanya, Wurrumiyanga, Ngukurr, Rittarangu, Yirrkala and Milikapiti and are expected to be awarded in the near future.

Deadly Hair Dude shares his skill
For the month of February, if you have an interest in hairdressing and are between the ages of 11 and 17, you have the chance to participate in a program provided by the Deadly Hair Dude in collaboration with Julalikari, who managed to win a grant from the Department of Health to bring the program to Tennant Creek as a part of the Alcohol and Other Drugs initiative.

However, people from the Barkly and throughout the Territory remember her as a warm and caring woman; and a passionate, unrelenting advocate for her country and her people.

Barkly Regional Council has appointed its new CEO after a lengthy recruitment process by Councillors and the Mayor. Emma Bradbury joins the Council from the Murray Darling Association as the outgoing CEO.
Barkly an inspiration for up and coming Territory songstress
Alice Springs born Sally Balfour is well known around the Tennant Creek music circuit, playing at local venues and working with schools, just finishing an artist in residence with Tennant Creek Primary School ... Her debut album will be recorded in April with Dave Crowe from Sing Hum Studio and will feature a variety of songs.
