Junior Cougars on the rise
Congratulations, Casino Cougars. The junior outfit has been named the NSW Rugby League Grassroots Club of the Year. The club has grown from 130 players in 2012 to 340 in 2021.
Primary school concert attracts hundreds
After the bitter disappointment of not being able to have a concert last year, there was an extra level of anticipation as an audience of several hundred family and friends gathered on the north oval in preparation for an evening of performances by the students with the theme “Books Alive”.

Serena Kirby. The WA College of Agriculture Denmark showcased a wide range of activities this month at its annual open day ... From machinery maintenance and aquaculture to forestry and calf rearing, students and staff demonstrated the farm-based programs run by the school.
Regional youth taskforce tackles connectivity, staying safe online
The 2021 Regional Youth Taskforce have held their third meeting of the year, coming together over the weekend discuss how young people in regional and rural communities could better connect to outside services. Minister for Regional Youth Bronnie Taylor said the meeting focused on providing better access to training, services, work and recreational opportunities for young people across regional NSW.

Local girls fundraise to help vet practice
This week there was an amazing demonstration of kindness and selflessness from Tennant Creek youth which deserves to be widely acknowledged. Three young girls, Nichole Konedaris, Kirra Carse and Kamryn Piper surprised the Barkly Veterinary Practice with a huge donation of pet supplies, including food, toys, treats, blankets and bedding for animals undergoing veterinary care in town.

The free augmented reality experience is on until 10 September and offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in nature while learning about these beautiful flowers through the magic of technology.

In a major milestone for Torres Strait Islanders, Queensland has progressed legal recognition of Torres Strait Islander traditional child rearing practice with the opening of the Office of the Commissioner (Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa) in Cairns ... Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa Commissioner C’Zarke Maza said the office would support life-long aspirations among many Torres Strait Islanders by improving access to support, services and opportunities.

Eliza Berlage. The struggle to secure childcare services in rural and regional areas has led some parents to sacriï¬ce their careers or move to bigger cities, according to a new study ... It found regional and rural areas lacked childcare services and staff to work at the centres, and that childcare was often not seen as profitable enough to attract new operators to the sector.

Orchestra highlight for Tennant kids
The gladrags were dusted off on Saturday night for Oz Opera’s performance of Bizet’s Carmen at the Civic Hall. Five local children had the amazing opportunity to take part in the event, performing two songs in French and impressing everyone with their acting abilities.
Beanies off to Barkly winners
The Community Hub hosted felting workshops in June to create beanies for the Alice Springs Beanie Festival. Entries were sent down for display, judging and possible sale, and life went on. So it was a pleasant surprise to find three of the entries won awards.
