Mixed reaction to rate hike
Elected members have had a mixed reaction to a business plan and budget prepared by Naracoorte Lucindale Council's management team. A shock 5.8 percent rate hike is included in the 53 page document unveiled at a special May 1 council meeting ... While all elected members praised staff for preparing the draft plan and budget, some were less enthusiastic about the sudden rate increase.
Dirt roads

Coalition legacy delivers for Bordertown

An average 5.8 per cent rate rise for the 2024-25 draft budget is proposed by the Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s administration. The $22,234 million draft includes a $1.087 million operating surplus. Now electors can read the plan and have their say before May 27, advising what they think the rates should be and what expenditure needs to be included, or excluded.
McBride supports bid for local contractors
A $2400 work order to fix a broken tap at a local school reflects how a State Government system is open for dishonest behaviour. Independent Member for MacKillop Nick McBride also described how difficult it was for local contractors to be approved as capable of doing even minor government work at schools.
World-class race track: Bordertown Speedway Club asks for a $150,000 loan
Major upgrade works have begun at the Bordertown Speedway to make the facility a “world-class” race track. Once completed, the project aims to put Bordertown on the map, with a facility big enough to attract all types of racing. While the project has hit many speedbumps, the Bordertown Speedway Club says budget has been a big factor.

Housing hopes rise

Farming land on the eastern edge of Kadina is expected to be transformed into hundreds of homes with "generous block sizes" in coming years after rezoning was finalised by the state government last week ... State Planning Minister Nick Champion said ... the privately led rezoning — the about 28 hectare land parcel has been owned by a company called Lasopail since 1996 — will help the town grow in a considered and measured way.
Rural Bank reports decade of unbroken growth and heralds market shift in Australian farmland values
The 2024 Rural Bank Australian Farmland Values Report finds that Australian farmland values have now recorded a full decade of unbroken growth. While 2023 saw a rise in the national median price, capping off an extraordinary period for farmland values, it also marked a shift in the market as the pace of growth slowed considerably.
Moving ANZAC Day service
A moving Anzac Day dawn service was held in Naracoorte to remember fallen soldiers and service people on April 26. Mayor Patrick Ross described the service as "amazing”.
Vital tourism
Is Naracoorte-Lucindale District a competitive tourism destination, and are we doing enough to leverage from the region’s visitor economy? Tourism is critical to the region’s growth ... According to the Naracoorte Visitor Information Centre, 1738 tourists visited the district in the first two months of the year, with the majority being interstate and intrastate guests.
Back-to-back-to-back: SA only state growing exports: Szakacs
South Australia is the only state in the nation to grow its exports according to latest trade stats as trade with China continues to soar – up nearly 40 per cent year-on-year. The state’s merchandise exports reached $17.7 billion in the year to March 2024, growing by 2.8 per cent, against a nationwide decrease of 10 per cent over the same period.
