Urgent investment needed for electricity reliability: AEMO

AEMO has today published an update to the 2023 Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) report, the 10-year reliability outlook for the National Electricity Market (NEM). The update was triggered due to material changes impacting reliability risks since the 2023 ESOO was published last August, including new commissioning dates for Project EnergyConnect, and mothballed gas and diesel generators in South Australia.

Paws up for puppy program

Michelle Daw. About 50 people showed their interest in helping to nurture the guide dogs of the future when they took part in a puppy raising seminar in Moonta this month. The event was held by Guide Dogs SA/ NT at the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia Copper Coast sub branch ... It is the first time the puppy raising program has been extended beyond metropolitan Adelaide.

Dry seeding pushes on: GPA

Seeding is underway for most Australian grain producers with many in parts  of western and southern Australia reducing their canola plantings as they continue to wait for a proper season break  in the absence of any rain. The longer growing season required by canola had  many growers pinning their hopes on an April break according to Grain Producers Australia Chair Barry Large.  

Mixed reaction to rate hike

Elected members have had a mixed reaction to a business plan and budget prepared by Naracoorte Lucindale Council's management team. A shock 5.8 percent rate hike is included in the 53 page document unveiled at a special May 1 council meeting ... While all elected members praised staff for preparing the draft plan and budget, some were less enthusiastic about the sudden rate increase.

An average 5.8 per cent rate rise for the 2024-25 draft budget is proposed by the Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s administration. The $22,234 million draft includes a $1.087 million operating surplus. Now electors can read the plan and have their say before May 27, advising what they think the rates should be and what expenditure needs to be included, or excluded.

McBride supports bid for local contractors

A $2400 work order to fix a broken tap at a local school reflects how a State Government system is open for dishonest behaviour. Independent Member for MacKillop Nick McBride also described how difficult it was for local contractors to be approved as capable of doing even minor government work at schools.

World-class race track: Bordertown Speedway Club asks for a $150,000 loan

Major upgrade works have begun at the Bordertown Speedway to make the facility a “world-class” race track. Once completed, the project aims to put Bordertown on the map, with a facility big enough to attract all types of racing. While the project has hit many speedbumps, the Bordertown Speedway Club says budget has been a big factor.
