University is becoming more accessible for Yorke Peninsula’s next generation of tertiary students with the opening of a Uni Hub outreach service in Minlaton.
Studying entirely online does not work for everyone, which can create an education barrier for people unable to move to a larger city.
However, from tomorrow (Wednesday, May 29), this barrier will be removed, with Uni Hub now operating on the last Wednesday of every month from the YP Council office at Minlaton.
The new central base will provide students with in-person support to help with university administration, accessing local tutors, coordinating placements and connecting students with employers.
Support will be offered to students doing a range of degrees, including nursing, allied health, education, business management and engineering.
Uni Hub Spencer Gulf chief executive Anita Kuss said the program worked by partner universities delivering lectures online, but students would be able to visit the Uni Hub base to get in-person support.
Ms Kuss said all university students in the region could use the services.
“We are pleased to have the chance to work more closely with smaller communities like those in the Yorke Peninsula district and appreciate the invitation and support provided by the council to make this happen,” Ms Kuss said.
YPC mayor Darren Braund encouraged young people to take advantage of the opportunity.
“The Uni Hub’s outreach service promises to be an important addition to help those studying remotely, and those seeking more information about possible university pathways,” Mayor Braund said.
“It will offer our residents who want, or need, to remain living on the Yorke Peninsula, a human connection to help them through their studies.”
