Low emissions truck trial has QFES leading the nation: Boyd, de Brenni
Two new prime movers are set to be delivered to QFES as part of an Australian first trial. The Volvo trucks - one running on Hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and the other electric – will support operational logistics at Caloundra and Townsville ... the HVO-powered truck comes with the latest 13-litre Euro 6 technology, allowing it to run on either the alternative fuel or regular diesel.
CCS in the GAB – Agriculture, rural communities and conservationists say no and now the science does too: QFF
The Queensland Government has rejected the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Glencore's carbon capture and storage (CCS) project confirming the grave concerns raised by the Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF), industry and other representatives. The EIS assessment process has found that the science behind this project is inadequate, and the risk to the Great Artesian Basin (GAB) too great, meaning the precautionary principle must apply.
Report calls for rebuild of financial services in the bush: Canavan, Colbeck, Rennick, Brockman
The Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee released a report which recommends investment in the financial services available in rural and regional Australia to make up for the loss of services from bank closures in recent years. There are 596 Australian towns which once had a major bank branch but now do not have a bank branch at all. In most cases, our major banks left these towns with no plan on how financial services would be provided after a bank closure.
Allora police reports
Ben Ogden Senior Constable 17702 Allora Police Station ... a motorist drove into Allora township at night time and did large burnouts on Warwick Street in between the IGA supermarket and the Railway Hotel in his Holden Commodore Utility before driving off. With the assistance of members of the community and the CCTV from local businesses Allora Police identified the culprit and the vehicle, with search warrants being executed at an address in Warwick.

On Sunday, prior to teeing off for the Ty Gardner Concreting Monthly Medal, the Allora Sports Club Secretary, John Ellwood, paid tribute to club member Ray O’Leary. John spoke of Ray’s love of golf, and his commitment, together with Doreen, to keeping the greens in top condition. Ray shouted everyone a drink and a minutes' silence was held.
Allora to have its first roundabout
Construction at Allora’s first roundabout at the intersection of Forde and Warwick streets is scheduled for the 2025-26 financial year. The installation of the new roundabout was announced by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in September 2022.

Warrego Highway funding criticised
Member for Groom Garth Hamilton has taken aim at the Federal Labor Government over the budget allocation for the Warrego Highway between Toowoomba and Ipswich ... "All of this $177 million commitment has been allocated to the 35 kilometre section in the government-held electoral division of Blair (which is in Ipswich). This has shamefully ignored that the Warrego Highway is a critical freight route in Southern Queensland that moves product from paddock to port."
Two more fire ant nests spotted
Local residents should remain on the lookout for fire ants following the discovery of two nests at Meringandan West. This discovery comes just weeks after 80 fire ant nests were found at the Oakey Army Aviation Centre.

Regulations to be enhanced to further protect iconic koalas: Linard
The Miles Government has released the findings of a review of the government’s koala habitat protection regulations. The regulations were introduced in 2020 to better protect South East Queensland’s iconic koala population and the habitat they call home ... The consultation confirmed the regulations had been effective, however some elements have not worked as intended. Â
Dry seeding pushes on: GPA
Seeding is underway for most Australian grain producers with many in parts  of western and southern Australia reducing their canola plantings as they continue to wait for a proper season break  in the absence of any rain. The longer growing season required by canola had  many growers pinning their hopes on an April break according to Grain Producers Australia Chair Barry Large. Â
About time government reps speak up on GAB CO2 project: WQAC
The 24 councils of Western Queensland have welcomed recent public comment from state and federal representatives which add a boost to the growing call to shut down Glencore’s proposed injection of industrial waste into the Great Artesian Basin.  The Western Queensland Alliance of Councils (WQAC) is encouraged by responses from Premier Steven Miles, Senator Murray Watt and earlier Minister Glenn Butcher regarding the Glencore-owned carbon capture and storage project.

Success for sunny lawn Brafords at Rocky Beef Week
Well known cattle producer Neil Pacholke from Spring Creek came home with a heap of awards from Beef Australia held last week in Rockhampton. Sunny Lawn Brafords were awarded Reserve calf champion heifer, Junior champion bull, Senior champion cow, Grand champion cow, Exhibitors Group and Sire progeny group.
