Thousands expected at Paradise Lagoons Campdraft Â
Riders and spectators from around Australia will converge on the Region this weekend for the 22nd annual Paradise Lagoons Campdraft. The Paradise Lagoons Campdraft Association received $10,000 towards the event during round two of Council’s 2023/24 Community Assistance Program (CAP). Â
‘Where do they go?’ Mysterious shorebirds in spotlight
Two tiny trackers are helping to uncover the secrets of the Sunshine Coast’s resident shorebirds. In a collaboration with the Queensland Wader Study Group and with the assistance of the Queensland Bird Research and Banding Group, Sunshine Coast Council recently fitted two tiny satellite trackers to Sooty Oystercatchers.

Darling Downs Zoo off the market
After making the difficult decision last year to put the zoo they founded on the market, Steve and Stephanie Robinson have had a change of heart, deciding to retain ownership of the Darling Downs Zoo at Pilton ... Mr Robinson said he wanted to ensure the zoo remains as a breeding facility for rare and endangered animals, as well as a family and educational facility that attracts visits from many local schools.
Free farm machinery display this weekend
This Saturday and Sunday, John Reis and Steaming on the Downs are presenting their spectacular vintage and steam-driven farm machinery on-farm exhibition at Lilydale, near Meringandan. More than fifty working machines, plus bush poetry, camp oven damper-making and a sausage sizzle are just some of the attractions.

The Miles Government has made a landmark investment of $1.2 billion towards a new Bundaberg Hospital which will transform healthcare for patients, carers and staff for generations to come ... The new hospital will have more than 400 beds, including 320 overnight beds, expanded emergency department, additional operating theatres and a wider range of outpatient and diagnostic services.

Homes for Queenslanders – Modulars provide new homes for Hughenden: Scanlon
The first families have moved into four, two-bedroom factory-built modular homes in Hughenden, as the Miles Government delivers its Homes for Queenslanders plan. The Hughenden modular homes were built in Hutchinson Builders’ factory in Toowoomba.
500 trauma teddies
It takes the members of the Westbrook Trauma Teddies Group one year to knit 500 trauma teddies, making a heartfelt difference in the lives of local children experiencing trauma. This year’s teddy making has been assisted by a grant of $824 from Toowoomba Regional Council, which will cover the cost of purchasing fibre filling for 500 trauma teddies.

Construction of the new Toowoomba Hospital at the Baillie Henderson Hospital campus in Cranley is officially underway.The ceremonial sod turning event was held last Friday and was attended by politicians and health department figures.
Country music fans converge on Nobby
Country music fans came from as far north as Childers and Maryborough, Kyogle in the south, and all points in between as Nobby School of the Arts became the venue for another Country Music Walk Up festival over three days last weekend ... Thirty six artists were programmed to perform on Friday in front of a near capacity hall as big hats, coloured hair and cowboy boots became normal attire.

An exciting night of bowls to finish off the season with the winners for the Summer competition Gina’s Babies on 21 and the runners up Cool Cats on 18. Congratulations to both teams. The team names will be added to the Lyn Wright Night Bowls Championship Shield.
Special Anzac service at Goomburra
This year the Goomburra Town Hall recently constructed Memorial Garden was the nucleus for the Anzac Day Service. Although numbers were small it was a touching service presented by Jenny Newton and Mary-Lou Gittins OAM.
