One of the best banjo players in the Riverina has played his last bush dance after retiring from the much-loved Tin Shed Rattlers after 38 years. Ian Charles has been part of the Downside Hall furniture since he first joined the Tin Shed Rattlers as their tenor banjo player in 1986.

Group calls for new ads to provide Basin balance
Ongoing community outrage at misleading Australian Government advertisements has led to official complaints by a leading rural organisation. The Murray Regional Strategy Group (MRSG) has submitted formal complaints to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACC) and the Commonwealth Ombudsman. Its complaint relates to Murray-Darling Basin Plan advertisements, amid numerous claims they are inaccurate and misleading.
Baa’ing fast
On a perfect racing day, the annual Wakool Sheep Races were held at the Wakool Recreation Reserve on Saturday evening. The ewe ‘jockeys’ stayed safe behind the seven-lane barrier draw while their sheep were motivated to run faster to the finish line by the ringing of hand-held bells.

Norco, Australia’s largest and oldest dairy co-operative has announced the expansion of its ‘Farmer Army’ with new mental health recruit and dairy farmer veteran, Craig Waddell ... Michael Hampson, Norco Chief Executive Officer said the newly created position of Mental Health Support Officer will provide support exclusively to their farmer members who may need to talk to someone during challenging times or simply want to have a chat with another farmer.
Half a million PET bottles of drinking water avoided in NSW schools: SOURCE Global

Governor of NSW visits Hay and Balranald

Magpie’s women’s team makes history
Hay Magpies Rugby League Club made a mark on the long history of the sport in Hay, when the first Magpies woman’s league side took to the field in Young. The side has been bolstered by solid recruiting by the club and despite most players playing their first competition game of the contact sport coach Jessie Carter was pleased with the showing.
Regional crime package “not enough”
A $26.2 million initiative to tackle regional crime launched last week by the NSW Government that aims to address the increased rate of offending and community safety doesn’t go far enough claims Clarence MP Richie Williamson, who has called for locals to share experiences of crime on a new website.
