Australia’s milk production continues recovery, as modest global supply growth forecast for year ahead: Rabobank
Australia’s milk production continues to recover, as global supply is forecast to grow at a modest rate in the coming year, Rabobank says in its newly-released Global Dairy Quarterly. In the Q3 report, titled Market Narratives are Shifting, the global agribusiness bank says positive – though modest – milk supply growth is expected from the world’s major dairy-exporting regions through the remainder of 2024 and in 2025.

Barham Rock ‘n’ Roll draws huge crowds
The biannual cluBarham Rock by the River Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival attracted 250 attendees from local and interstate to enjoy four days of live music and dancing ... The four days of entertainment were complemented by dancing lessons and the opportunity to buy the perfect attire or pair of swanky shoes to complement one’s moves on the dance floor.
Significant piece of Narrandera AFL history
A very significant local football photograph has come to light from Narrandera resident Ian "Rat" Rankin who found it from the period when his great-grandfather coached Narrandera in 1900. Only his great-pop’s name was on the back - Edward Armstrong ... Before this photo his great-grandfather coached the Australian Rules team at Gillenbah.
Police bust: Drugs, firearms and vapes seized in towns
Police in conjunction with NSW Health conducted searches on a business in East Street Narrandera on Friday following information that illegal cigarettes and vapes were being sold. During this search Police and NSW Health recovered a large quantity of vapes and cigarettes. Owners of businesses face fines of up to $1.5 million dollars and up to seven years of imprisonment if found guilty.
First local teaching students ready to graduate through Riverina Teaching Hub
The first students to complete their studies through the Riverina Teaching Hub pilot program were recognised at a graduation celebration in Wagga Wagga on Tuesday. The Riverina Teaching Hub was established in 2023 by the NSW Department of Education in partnership with UNSW Sydney to attract and retain local teachers. The model provides on-the-job training for aspiring teachers in local public schools while they study for their teaching degree.
A sea of colour for Book Week 2024
Overlockers and sewing machines, hot glue guns and paper mâché formations worked overtime last week to prepare costumes for the 2024 Book Week Parade at Barham’s Riverside Park. For those time-restricted or creatively impaired, it was a flying trip to costume shops to gather all the bibs and bobs needed to help bring book characters to life!

Local Nationals MPs have joined forces to call out the NSW Heath Department’s decision to scrap Norco supplied milk to hospitals from the Tweed to Port Macquarie, a move that could threaten the livelihoods of Northern Rivers dairy farmers ... "Given our 129-year heritage in the Northern Rivers region, we are naturally disappointed by their decision to no longer support local and 100 per cent Australian-owned," the Norco spokesperson said.

Free camping at Sandy Point again reared its head, briefly, at a recent extraordinary meeting of Hay Shire Council. In a Notice of Motion by retiring councillor, Peter Handford, Council was asked to impose a fee on campers using the facilities at popular Sandy Point Reserve ... General Manager, David Webb said currently the reputation of Sandy Point as a free camp site acts as a significant attraction to Hay, drawing visitors from other free camps because of additional visitor experiences, access to supermarkets, pubs, clubs and fuel stations.
Dunera Mass returns to Hay after 84 years
A Dunera Mass, part-written in Hay more than 80 years ago, is returning for a site-specific performance at Hay War Memorial Hall. The dramatised concert will be performed in Hay during the annual Dunera Commemorative day ... The concert will involve the community where some of Max-Peter Meyer's music was written while he spent part of 1940-41 in the internment camp at Hay.

Supporting Rex’s access to Sydney Airport: King
Today, I directed the Slot Manager at Sydney Airport to suspend the application of the ‘use it or lose it’ test on Rex’s regional NSW slot holdings for the current and upcoming scheduling season. This test stipulates that airlines must use 80 per cent of their allocated slots or risk losing them. Its suspension will protect Rex’s NSW regional slots at Sydney Airport until late March 2026.
