Mallee Root Round Up – Hundreds flock to Birchip

The annual Mallee Root Round Up B’n’S Ball brought rural spirit and good fun to the fore this past weekend, drawing 637 attendees from across Victoria to the Birchip Trotting Track. With an exuberant crowd, fantastic music and plenty of country hospitality and camaraderie, this year's event was a resounding success, raising $100,000 in ticket and merchandise sales.

Hill Climb buzz

Oh glorious springtime Saturday in October, the air around Mount Tarrengower filled with the sound of bees and pobblebonks and roaring, revving engines. It was the Historic Hill Climb on Saturday 19 October, so motor-heads from miles around converged at Butts Reserve to admire each other’s chassis and race up and down the hill, as has been the tradition since 1928.

A blue ribbon day at the show

Hooray for the 160th Maldon and Baringhup Show on 20 October. It was a winner of a day under blue skies at the Maldon Racecourse and Recreation Reserve, where folks gathered to appreciate the achievements of growers, breeders, makers, doers and animals of our region. There was something for everyone to enjoy.

Lovell calls for stop to solar farm in wine country

The proposed Cooba Solar Project will cover a massive 665 hectares of some of the best wine country in Victoria with 740,000 solar panels and 300 batteries the size of shipping containers. There are over 30 wineries along the Heathcote-Rochester Road that bring a constant stream of tourists to the area ... Narrandera celebrates its furry friends

The event is designed to celebrate Narrandera’s furry friends and to raise awareness about their conservation. A Narrandera Shire Council spokesperson hailed the event as a success with many koalas being spotted.

Honour Wall recognises achievement and heritage of Wiradjuri people

Illegal trails claim: Call for Hallowell bike ban

Patricia Gill. Friends of Kooryanderup (Mt Hallowell) are calling for a ban on mountain biking on the 532ha A-Class reserve. The Friends have raised concerns as the Shire of Denmark is set to overhaul the Mt Hallowell Management Plan (2008). The Friends report having seen youngsters with shovels and rakes emerging from the Sheila Heritage Trail Park Reserve.

Open gardens to raise funds for hospice

Garden lovers can wander through two of Denmark’s biggest private gardens ... one of the garden owners, Geoff Osborne, said he was opening his garden to raise funds for the Albany Community Hospice. Geoff’s garden spans 4ha and was the creation of him and his wife of 50 years Ruby. She died in June 2021 after spending her final days in the Albany Hospice.

Denmark brothers win National Enduro bike title

The enduro racing format involves riders racing against the clock in a series of downhill stages, with the final results coming down to the millisecond.

Street works impact on youth centre

In 2021, Upper Murray Innovation Foundation (UMIF) - the Corryong Neighbourhood Centre (CNC) Community Foundation - received a federal Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant to refurbish and re-equip the Youth Space at 42 Hanson Street.
