Chris Oldfield. The community spirit of Tatiara District Council was on show last week when its monthly meeting was held in Padthaway’s sporting complex. Some of the many key issues raised included road safety, a lack of child care and wishes for a school hall and pool. The issues were raised by Padthaway Primary School’s Years 5 and 6 class.
$430,000 outstanding for NLC
Rates and service charges totalling $430,322.21 were outstanding and owed to Naracoorte Lucindale Council on June 30, 2022. The amount is around $24,000 less than that left outstanding a year ago – June 30, 2021.

Extension to Administrator for Coober Pedy Council
The State Government has made a decision to extend the governance by an Administrator of the District Council of Coober Pedy for a further maximum time of four years. Currently, under the Local Government Act 1999, the Council must return to an elected member body at the upcoming Council elections. However, a Bill to extend the administration that is in place at the District Council of Coober Pedy will be introduced to Parliament in the first sitting week in September.

Passionate about nature and the natural flow of waterways, local retired farmer Mr Peter "Huck” Shepherd presented his findings about the potential flooding of the Naracoorte Creek and the possible damage to buildings, businesses and homes in the lower lying areas of the town, to the Naracoorte Lucindale Council meeting ... “If I were to give a rating on the creek’s wellbeing and capacity to handle a decent flood and observing the mess it is in and the lack of maintenance since the 2000 report, out of a ten rating I would give it a minus 5,” he told council.

Sheryl Lowe. Chris Oldfield. Cr Cameron Grundy has challenged Naracoorte Lucindale Council CEO Trevor Smart over “in confidence” meetings. Cr Grundy has further questioned why council discussed the sale of a road reserve “in confidence” when he could not find a reason under the Local Government Act for it to be a secret. The issue arose at council’s July 26 meeting in a segment Questions Without Notice.
Chapter one of Burra’s World Heritage journey
On the 16th of August local, state and international heritage experts will come together at the Burra Town Hall to involve the community in a conversation about Burra's World Heritage bid. The panel will include renowned UK world heritage consultant Mr Barry Gamble who will be working with the Regional Council of Goyder, Copper Coast Council and National Trust on a joint World Heritage bid of the Cornish Mining sites in Burra and Moonta.

Millions of sterile fruit flies to be released weekly
Sterile fruit flies will be released across the Riverland this week, as part of an eradication plan to stop breeding. From Monday 1 August, the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) started releasing 20 million sterile male fruit flies per week.
