Rates and service charges totalling $430,322.21 were outstanding and owed to Naracoorte Lucindale Council on June 30, 2022.
The amount is around $24,000 less than that left outstanding a year ago – June 30, 2021.
Finance and governance manager Alex Edmunds said no Section 184 notices had been issued for the sale of land as a result of non-payment of rates.
However, the council’s debt collectors were seeking money from various people who owed a total of $107,005.30.
A further $90,454.68 was awaiting debt collection.
People owing a total of $63,190.84 were making payment arrangements with the council.
Meanwhile, overdue notices had been sent to people for $169,671.39 outstanding.
“Ratepayers experiencing difficulties in meeting their rate commitments are encouraged to make an appointment with council’s rates officer to establish a suitable payment plan,” Ms Edmunds said in her written report.
“Fines and interest continue to apply as applicable.”
Regarding various general debtors, Ms Edmunds said a total of $300,846.35 was in arrears on June 30, 2022.
At the same time last year that amount was only $180,714.28.
Ms Edmunds encouraged debtors who owed money to the council to make an appointment and set up a payment plan.
