Naracoorte Lucindale Council will soon have another masterplan – this time for the swimming lake.

Announced last March, the current draft is set to be endorsed at council’s August 24 full meeting.

The draft includes upgrades that council claims will be $5.4million over 10 years, and total current costs of more than $2.88 million.

With a $30,000 budget, the work of consultants Outer Space developed concept designs that were included in the masterplan.

Council sought feedback about its draft masterplan last March.

Now council is seeking feedback again – this time under the banner of “phase two community engagement, and further consideration by council”.

The masterplan includes things like coin operated hot showers, playground and splash area, BBQs with shelter and table setting, exercise equipment, disabled car park and access ramps, café with outdoor area, open play area for things like volleyball, and bollards for lap lanes along with several other items.

In a written report to council, manager operations Karl Manarangi said the swimming lake “is one of council’s most prized assets”.

He said it received outstanding reviews from visitors “and has been a favourite past-time experience for many locals over the past 61 years – and it is free”.

“The swimming lake grounds are open all year round, with the lake usually filled and operational from 1 December – 31 March annually, although the season may be extended due to seasonal conditions or special events,” Mr Manarangi said.

“The Naracoorte Swimming Lake is managed in line with the adopted Naracoorte Swimming Lake Asset Management Plan 2022-2032 which outlines the strategic approach for council to manage the assets and maintain the facility.”
