Days don’t get much better for a trainer than last Thursday for someone like Tanya Parry. The Julia Creek trainer had a career-best day, producing four winners on the TAB program in front of a national audience.
Worsnop lands first career double
Jeff Hanson. It was a day of firsts for Teighan Wornsop at Narrandera on Saturday, with the young jockey riding her first winning double. Teaming up with Cowra trainer Maree Hopkins - who was coincidently celebrating her birthday - the 22-year-old booted home a double, winning the 1200m Benchmark 50 Handicap aboard Mystic Flame ($2.90) and the 1400m Benchmark 50 Handicap aboard Gloraya ($17).

Koby Jennings has a wonderful association with the stable and it is significant the accomplished hoop retains the mount on Tequila Cabos following his dominant ride on Visceral at Taree a few days ago.
Club-auctioned gelding could be off to Birdsville
Mount Isa trainer Jay Morris says a trip to Birdsville could be on the cards for Don’t Despair after the gelding was an impressive first-up winner at Julia Creek on Saturday ... Morris, who is also president of the Mount Isa Race Club, said the former Brisbane horse was purchased by the club and sold at auction at the cocktail party prior to the Mount Isa Cup.

Krogh crowned Cups King
A bold move by jockey Quayde Krogh paid dividends when Kiptanui stunned favourite Ready To Humble in Sunday’s $40,000 Narrandera Cup over a mile. Trained by Mathew Dale, Kiptanui ($12) started from barrier 10 and was forced to sweep around the field early to take up the running, after Nick Olive’s Ready to Humble ($1.75) had bounded out of the gates and struck the early lead.
King becomes Cup Queen at Grafton
Emma Pritchard. Rachel King wrote her name in the record books at the Clarence River Jockey Club (CRJC) on July 14 when she became the first female jockey to win the premier staying event of the year, the 2022 Southside Pharmacy Grafton Cup over 2350m onboard the Bjorn Baker trained former French galloper Arapaho (FR). After beginning her riding career in Great Britain, King travelled to Australia and completed her apprenticeship with leading Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse while on her way to becoming one of the country’s premier hoops.
Funding boon for Tennant Turf Club
The Tennant Turf Club will receive $1 million over the next 10 years as part of the NT Government’s new funding agreement with Thoroughbred Racing NT (TRNT) ... Tennant Turf Club President Mike Nash welcomed the announcement with open arms.
Narrandera set to showcase the best of country racing
Jeff Hanson. Narrandera Race Club is gearing up for one of their biggest ever meetings. Racing on Sunday July 17, Narrandera will host their first Showcase race day, with each of their eight races carrying a minimum $30,000 in prize money.
Races rescheduled at Grafton
Emma Pritchard. The Clarence River Jockey Club (CRJC) postponed Races 4-9 on the opening day of the 2022 XXXX July Winter Racing Carnival, the Westlawn Finance Prelude Day on July 3, following a shocking incident in the concluding stages of Race 3, the Westlawn Business Loans 2YO Maiden Plate over 1015m. Apprentice jockey Leah Kilner, 24, was dislodged from her mount, the Owen Glue trained Stella’s Turn inside the final 100m when the filly tragically went amiss and crashed to the turf.

Sassy Choice holds the key at Port Macquarie on Saturday
There will be great interest surrounding the chances of Sassy Choice when the former Victorian takes her place in the Dux Hot Water Handicap on Fisher Plumbing Raceday at Port Macquarie on Saturday 2 July ... Ben Looker made the trip to Newcastle to pilot the filly in the trial and has retained the mount on Saturday and this could provide the added confidence for victory with Miss Marcie providing the strongest competition following a decisive recent win at Grafton.

Laura back with a bang
Cape York Peninsula’s biggest annual event, the Laura rodeo and races, roared back to life over the weekend. The tiny town of Laura, with a normal population of 200, swelled to around 3000 as thousands came from far and wide to be a part of what was once an annual event.

Baringhup’s McKnight Racing had an amazing day at Donald Racing Club last week. They had their first-ever ‘Winning Treble’. This is quite a feat for a stable that has only around 12 to 15 horses in work at a time!
