New awards seek out Australia’s best pool

Online pool marketplace Poolz is searching for Australia’s best pool as part of the first national Poolz Awards. Around 140 pools have been nominated across 23 categories for a total of almost 1000 entries including Most ‘Insta’ Worthy Pool, Best Hamptons-Style Pool, Best Pool on a Steep Slope, Best Pool and Slide, and Most Expensive Pool (pool builds over $300,000).

Affordable housing in Maldon and Newstead

Council is currently considering allocating 49-year leases on land owned at Steele Street in Maldon and Canrobert Street Newstead to Wintringham Housing.

Wugularr marks new remote housing milestone: Uibo

This month, the Territory Government has completed a major housing build and handover in the community of Wugularr (Beswick) – handing over a total of 28 homes. The $2.2 billion Remote Housing Investment Package, jointly funded by the Northern Territory and Commonwealth Governments, has so far delivered 1208 new homes and upgraded close to 1700 homes since September 2016.

Will the new home plan announced by the state government solve the South East’s dire housing crisis? As part of the Country Cabinet’s recent visit to the South East, the state government announced a new 60-home plan for the Tatiara District, with the hope of attracting workers to regional towns ... the project will cost the state government $2.7million.

101 homes unaccounted for

How much does it cost to build a three-bedroom home ... That makes it $214,500 per house, around $1500 a square meter. So, when the NT Government forks out $30m of taxpayer’s money, awarding a three year period contract to a local company (Pedersen NT, in this case) then we can expect to get 139 homes, with a bit left over, right? The Ferrero Group is selling its $70 million hazelnut development near Narrandera amid claims that the region’s climate played a key factor in its decision. The move to not proceed with its NSW project is considered a major blow to the establishment of a commercial-scale hazelnut growing industry in Australia.

Calls for council slashing at Nymboida

A Nymboida resident who was in the middle of the Glen’s Creek Road firestorm last Wednesday says calls for council to slash about 80 acres of land adjoining his and two other properties have resulted in a limited response that placed lives in jeopardy … “Council would be having a go at anyone else whose property is putting people at risk, but council can get away with it because they’re council…it’s not good enough.”

Remote building blitz continues across Central Australia: Uibo, Paech

A recently awarded remote housing contract supplements a pipeline of works across Central Australia worth $256 million. The building blitz is rolling out across 33 communities and town camps in Alice Springs. The most recent contract for $30 million was awarded to Pedersen NT to build more than 20 new homes across Luritja Pintubi country.

Yanchep shedders appeal for a new home

Yanchep Community Men’s Shed is appealing to the City of Wanneroo to help find them a new home before their lease in Bracknell St runs out in February. Yanchep News Online understands Yanchep Community Men’s Shed (YCMS) also wants to contact Yanchep Beach Joint Venture (YBJV) chief executive officer Gin Wah Ang in their efforts to find some land for which they can pay a peppercorn rent or the use of an existing building for low rent.

Many issues behind empty shops

Extra rates to be spent on roads

Patrick Goldsmith. Yorke Peninsula Council will spend the $405,114 in extra rates revenue garnered from primary producers, on road-related efficiency improvement. YPC rates increased by eight per cent this year, with an extra three per cent hit taken by primary producers.
