The Hon. John Carey, Minister for Lands (WA), Media Release, 24 October 2023

The Cook Government has approved a 1,012 square-metre land transfer to support a growing early childhood learning centre located on McNeill Street, Dalwallinu.

The site will be transferred to the Shire of Dalwallinu with conditional freehold, in recognition of the immediate and long-term benefits for the Dalwallinu community.

Built in 2022, the purpose-built early childhood facility was constructed by the Shire, and co-locates the town’s early learning centre, toy library and playgroup.

The early learning centre has increased its days of operation from four to five, and the number of places for children from 19 to 27, meaning that a greater number of parents have been able to re-enter the workforce and boost the local economy.

Comments attributed to Lands Minister John Carey:

“The Cook Government continues to work with regional local governments to identify lazy Government land for housing or other projects that benefit local communities.

“We’re committed to supporting our regional communities, including through making land available to support the continued operation for Dallwallinu’s early childhood education and care centre.

“Increased childcare capacity will improve education and social outcomes for young children and families in regional communities.”
