50 years of depreciation?
The whereabouts of 50 years of depreciation for the Naracoorte saleyards is under the spotlight following questions by Cr Cameron Grundy. Cr Grundy has further queried if livestock owners have paid for the yards twice - once via fees when they sold their stock, and again as ratepayers via their council rates. He raised the matter at council’s June 25 meeting following a motion on notice by Cr Craig McGuire regarding the Naracoorte Regional Livestock Exchange (NRLE).

A leading Charles Sturt University researcher co-led a multi-discipline team investigating the origins of dingoes, when they arrived in Australia, and how they changed over nearly three thousand years. Professor of Evolution and Environmental Change Alan Cooper … analysed genomes from skeletons and mummies of dingoes found in the many caves of the giant Nullarbor Plain across southern Australia.

The project will support the 64,000 hectare  expansion of the Crystalvale Nature Refuge, about 15km south-west of Coen, and  establish the new 244,000 hectare Abingdon Downs North Nature Refuge, about 85km north-west of Georgetown ... Michael Roberts. Frank Tuck arrived at Victoria Park from Murray League club Strathmerton in 1950 as an 18 year-old forward. He went on to captain Collingwood in the two seasons prior to his retirement in 1959 and played 131 games for the club.

Ceramist to share evolutionary story
South African ceramic artist Madoda Fani will be artist in residence at Denmark Arts from August to September. Madoda’s African heritage inspires his hand-coiled, burnished and smoke-fired pieces that are a contemporary evolution of the traditional ceramics of his country.
Heart-felt gift to Denmark community
Six new public defibrillators will be installed along Denmark’s coast in memory of beloved Fremantle father of two, Andy Rutherford, who died of cardiac arrest last year ... Andy’s family were reunited with some of the SJWA volunteers who were by his side in his final moments on June 24, for the installation of the first defibrillators and to unveil a tribute plaque in his memory at Lights Beach.
