$15,550 paid for top Woodpark Poll ram
Woodpark Poll Merinos enjoyed a full clearance at their annual ram sale September 23. For the first time in two decades the Huggins family sale was held at Conargo Sports Ground, after traditionally selling at Jerilderie. All 150 rams on offer sold to an average of $3,110. The top price of $15,550 for Woodpark Poll 23-404, was paid by Grassy Creek Merinos, Reids Flat.
50th anniversary of the airstrip at Lord Howe Island
During the week beginning 9th September, there were celebrations on the Island to mark the completion of the Lord Howe Island airstrip in September, 1974. Around 50 members of the Australian army and navy, with family members, who were part of the project, visited to mark the anniversary.
Clarence Valley third most affordable NSW sea change area
The Clarence Valley has been named the third most affordable sea change region in NSW based on median house prices and median local income as hundreds of families annually move from the cities in search of a more relaxed lifestyle. The Regional Australia Institute compared median home prices and median local incomes in each local government area of the regions and capital cities, plus the distance to the coast, the distance to national parks and the economic diversity of each area and published the information in its Good Life Guide last Tuesday.

Prime Impact scores dominant victory in Port Cup Prelude
The dimensions surrounding the club’s premier event became a great deal clearer when Prime Impact stormed to victory in the WIN Network Port Macquarie Cup Prelude on a successful resumption to racing at the circuit last Sunday. Planting underway for Australian cotton with above average crops expected: Cotton Australia
Planting is underway across much of Australia’s cotton growing regions with some crops already out of the ground in warmer climates, some growers holding back for warmer weather while some in tropical areas won’t be planting until rain begins to fall. Oh Deer – wildlife on the loose in South Hay
Residents of South Hay have been surprised by the sudden appearance of a deer in the street. The animal was spotted in Lang Street, hopping from garden to garden, though the grounds of Comfort Inn Bishop's Lodge Motel, before heading along the busy Sturt Highway.

Independent Member for Murray, Helen Dalton, says a new Water Register she has convinced the NSW Government to introduce will help stop money laundering as well as the secret purchase of Australian water by foreign governments. She introduced the bill to parliament late last year, with the aim to force NSW politicians to declare their water interests on our conflict-of-interest form.
End of free housing at temporary pod villages in Coraki and Evans Head
For two years, people have been living free of charge in temporary housing villages known as pods. The 11 housing pod villages including ones at Coraki and Evans Head were set up after the 2022 flood disaster in response to the housing crisis.

Fire trails examined from the air ahead of bushfire season
The NSW Government is getting on the front foot ahead of bushfire season with helicopter inspections underway on fire trails across the state to prioritise maintenance work ... Helicopter-based inspections are considered more efficient than ground patrols by vehicles, particularly in remote and less-accessible areas, and reduce check times from months to weeks.
Volunteers save Lockhart airfield from closure
Sean Cunningham. The decision to keep Lockhart Airstrip opened has proved to be a good one with a group of workers regularly toiling hard to maintain it. Early last year, Lockhart Shire Council was considering closing the airstrip, however after many submissions were received requesting council to reconsider its proposal, council agreed by resolution to continue with the lease of the airstrip.

A hugely popular primary school showdown, pre-Covid-19, it was regularly pulling 90 or more contestants from years 4, 5 and 6 in schools across Gannawarra Shire.
