Barrelling along
Erika Quinn has celebrated success at Equitana Melbourne 2024, which was held on November 14-17. Erika took out fifth place in a field of 30 competitors from across the country in the prestigious barrel racing event held over two days.
Massive Murray Paddle concludes
The 55th Massive Murray Paddle finished on Friday in Koondrook having started four days earlier in Yarrawonga on Monday, November 18. Top athletes from all over Australia, New Zealand and the USA competed, along with at risk Indigenous youth paddling in teams following the Dungalayin Mileka Team model.

Clarence Valley Council (CVC) have taken a giant leap toward both substantially lowering greenhouse gas emissions from landfill and at the same time, greatly increasing their future usage of renewable energy after awarding a tender for Landfill Gas Management and Gas to Energy services at the Grafton Regional Landfill facility. And the huge bonus to the community… Council is set to reap a financial windfall.
Hay sits out the calm before the renewable energy storm
SW-REZ is in the calm before the REZ Access Rights announcement-storm in the coming months. Proposed large-scale windfarms such as Pottinger, Engie and Bullawah are all waiting in the wings for the all-important announcement to be made ... further proposals are coming forward, with renewable energy development company RES announcing a $40 million commitment to local community development as part of its plan to construct the Argoon Wind Farm.
Innovative move to attract future early learning educators
Studying childcare has just become easier for young people in Hay thanks to an innovative collaboration between Hay War Memorial High School and Hay Children’s Services. The school recently launched a fresh elective subject, Child Studies which is tailored for Years 9 and 10 students and offers a deep dive into the factors that influence a child's development and wellbeing from conception through the early years, covering ages zero to eight.
Locals rally to assist in fatal helicopter crash at One Tree
Tribute has been paid for the efforts of local community members and volunteers in the search and rescue of a fatal helicopter crash near One Tree ... Retired paramedic, Robert Marmont said locals rallied to render assistance after an official alert went out to all aircraft in the area … A man in his 40s died at the scene. The 29-year-old pilot sustained serious injuries and is being treated in Melbourne Hospital.
Hay Races: Decker takes Hay Cup honours
Decker, the eight-year-old bay gelding trained by Jerilderie’s Ross Purcell took out the Elders Hay Cup at the annual spring race day ... Decker passed the post ahead of Nathan Hobson trained King and King, in the 1400 metre race.
Clarence gets creative with inmate art
Artworks produced by inmates at the Clarence Correctional Centre (CCC) are currently on display as part of an exhibition entitled Clarence Gets Creative at the Casino Art Gallery. The unique event, created in partnership between SERCO and the art gallery, provides a platform for inmates to showcase their artistic talents.

Lismore lays the foundation for a world-class skatepark
An important milestone in constructing Lismore’s new $3.9 million Lismore Skatepark was reached this week, with the pouring of 2400m2 of concrete set to begin ... The facility includes both ‘street’ and ‘park’ (bowl) sections and a covered mini ramp, which is eagerly anticipated by the local skater community.
