Hay sits out the calm before the renewable energy storm

Recent stories

SW-REZ is in the calm before the REZ Access Rights announcement-storm in the coming months.

Proposed large-scale windfarms such as Pottinger, Engie and Bullawah are all waiting in the wings for the all-important announcement to be made.

In the meantime, further proposals are coming forward, with renewable energy development company RES announcing a $40 million commitment to local community development as part of its plan to construct the Argoon Wind Farm.

The proposed 612 MW Argoon Wind Farm will be located between Coleambally and Jerilderie.

RES has pledged $40 million to support local initiatives over 15 years should the project proceed, and said the commitment is more than double the recommended dollar per megawatt recommended in the draft NSW Planning Guidelines.

Aula Energy has recently joined RES in delivering this project.

Hay Shire Council is also considering a development proposal from Green Gold Energy Pty Ltd for a solar farm on Murrumbidgee River Road.

The proposed development is for a 5MW solar farm and battery. Submissions close on December 16.

Work is progressing rapidly on the 250-bed workers’ camp on the Cobb Highway for Transgrid which is constructing the 540km transmission line between Wagga Wagga and Buronga.

The camp near Booroorban is EnergyConnect’s latest accommodation facility and is scheduled for occupation next week.

It is the final camp of its kind to be purpose-built by Transgrid’s construction partner Elecnor, following the successful creation of additional facilities at Buronga, Dinawan, Lockhart and the use of a pre-existing camp at Balranald.

The camp will accommodate up to 250 people employed by Elecnor to assemble, erect and string the new transmission line.

Final works are being completed on the camp, including the installation of IT and Communications, lighting services, 24- hour security and the finalisation of the equipment laydown area.

More than 1,000 workers are engaged in building the additional 330kV transmission line.
