Floods hit Narrandera – SES among the heroes of the event

Major flooding of the Murrumbidgee River at Narrandera has led to the evacuation of residents in 14 households south of town. Warnings for major flooding are still in place. Narrandera Shire Council Deputy General Manager Infrastructure Shane Wilson said ... the volume of water flowing through the river in a 24-hour period was 130,000 Ml megalitres which equated to 130,000 Olympic swimming pools as against the normal flow rate of 40 megalitres. SES volunteers are keeping a close watch on water levels and checking on residents in low lying areas.

Eddie Woo to visit NHS

Australia's most famous Maths Teacher Eddie Woo is coming to Narrandera High School to speak to both students and staff about the wonders of Mathematics. Eddie will be coming as part of his leading role with the Mathematics Growth Team.

Wooden boats return To Lake Talbot

Like a scene from yesteryear, a number of timber-built boats recently descended on Lake Talbot. The Classic Australian Wooden Powerboat Association members are fond of Narrandera and have had their “annual gathering” at Lake Talbot since 2002.

Maritime museum dreams hit a reef, but they’re still afloat

Wayne Finch has been trying for years to find a home for his father’s collection of maritime memorabilia ... For 55 years, Frank  housed his collection  at his Highfield Rd home. He built a ship structure with a crows nest towering above the garage. Council to apply to join NRJO

Joint Organisations have legal powers to enable councils to work together at a regional level and with state agencies and other organisations to achieve better planning, economic development, and service delivery outcomes in regional NSW ... Currently the Northern Rivers Joint Organisation NRJO has the Ballina, Byron, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed NSW local government areas as full members.

Craig retires after 41 years as a paramedic

Growing up as the son of a policeman, Craig Stalker almost followed in his father’s footsteps, but his decision to join Ambulance NSW as a paramedic saw him serve for 41 years around the state, culminating this week after 36 years stationed at Maclean ... Over four decades Mr Stalker said he attended hundreds of fatalities and serious crashes including the horrific Cowper bus crash in 1989.

The Woodenbong Pool and the new playground next to the pool were damaged by vandals on the weekend ... “This latest incident follows a series of incidents in Kyogle and other villages, and in particular the Kyogle pool and surrounding precinct. National park estate continues to grow in NSW: Griffin

Wet weather delays pool opening

The deluge of rain over recent weeks has stalled the start of the swimming season at Lake Talbot Water Park. The complex opened for the summer season on October 1 but the wet weather has deterred swimmers on many days ... “We’ve been closed more days than we’ve been open,” said pool manager, Troy Lee.
