Wet weather delays pool opening

Recent stories

The deluge of rain over recent weeks has stalled the start of the swimming season at Lake Talbot Water Park. The complex opened for the summer season on October 1 but the wet weather has deterred swimmers on many days.

Pool managers Troy Lee and his wife Dycinta will be hoping for some warmer, dryer weather to help attract swimmers to the centre. Recent rainfall has literally put a dampener on attracting visitors to the complex during its first month of opening for the swimming season.

“We’ve been closed more days than we’ve been open,” Mr Lee said.

“It hasn’t helped when the river bridge has been closed on some days too.

“It’s been a hard sell with all this rain and you get four seasons in the one day, but I think it’s supposed to be up to 25 degrees this weekend so that might help.”

The pool is open seven days a week from 10am until 7pm.

Mr Lee said some improvements to the complex had been made over the winter period.

“We’ve got two new shade structures now,” Mr Lee said.

“We have a new fence built at the front of the pool with grant funding.

“We’ve also got five new picnic tables.” Mr Lee said the “morning swims’-would be available on weekdays only from 6.30am to 8am.

“It’s ideal if you want to swim some laps before you go to work,” he said.

“We’ll be starting the swim club learn to swim lessons in the coming weeks if the weather improves.

“We’re also continuing with several local primary schools having learn to swim lessons over summer. These lessons are open to all school-aged children.”

Mr Lee is also gearing up for a big day in January as the swimming complex could host the town’s Australia day celebrations.

“Narrandera Shire Council is looking into having Australia Day at the pool and I know it’s in the planning stage,” Mr Lee said.

“I hope that goes ahead.”
