Joan Hayman. Sixteen years ago, two Kyogle Tidy Towns members had a dream. They realised there was a need for a place where local producers could sell the products of their labour. They wanted to the town to see what was produced locally and to decrease the food miles their food travels  and help the planet.

New state-of-the-art technology will be unveiled, helping first responders overcome dangerous communications black spots to keep them better connected during emergencies. Mobile Wi-Fi equipment has now been installed in over 1,300 Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW State Emergency Service (SES) vehicles, which will ensure 4G or satellite communication access during incident responses.

According to the most recent national inventory conducted in 2021, Australia has 13,287 cubic metres of low-level radioactive waste, which by volume is more than five standard Olympic swimming pools ... The site of Australia’s only nuclear reactor at Lucas Heights can safely store waste on site for some time, but we must ensure this waste has an appropriate disposal pathway.

Forestry Corporation has almost completed a groundbreaking replanting program that has seen more than 11-million seedlings planted in the state’s pine forests this winter. Almost three years on from the Black Summer bushfires and the recovery effort in softwood plantations continues.

SFF calls out Goulburn MP Wendy Tuckerman on inaction over the Tarago Incinerator: Borsak

Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party MLC Robert Borsak and SFF Goulburn Branch President Andy Wood have called out the hypocrisy of the Liberal member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman, for her recent motion in the NSW Parliament about the proposed Tarago Incinerator. The proposed incinerator at Tarago will burn 380,000 tonnes of Sydney's waste each year, including plastics, municipal and industrial waste.

PS Alexander Arbuthnot’s 100th draws nearer

This year’s 100th anniversary of the launching of the paddleboat Alexander Arbuthnot at Koondrook will be celebrated at a community event at the Koondrook Wharf and Apex Park on Friday, October 27 from 4pm – 7.30pm ... During the event, interpretive signage will be unveiled showcasing the extensive research from the Barham Koondrook Historical Society and volunteers on the local paddleboat history.

40 year PB

Professionally, he is known as Doctor Peter Barker OAM, but to the community he serves, he is affectionately known as Doc Barker, Doc, Peter and even PB. Last week, our local GP celebrated 40 years in the job in Cohuna – and he celebrated wearing a blazer and tie much like he wore on his first day at the clinic on August 3, 1983.

Not-so-Instagram-worthy issues to be raised with Premier

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has challenged the NSW Premier Chris Minns to show that he governs for the entire State and to do what is needed to improve Narrandera’s water supply. Ms Cooke said … he should do so in what he has already tagged as the "insta-worthy township of Narrandera".

Pharmacy transition not all rosy

Pharmacies in regional, rural and remote Australia with average script volumes equalling dispensing income of under $1 million in the 12 months to April 1, 2023 will be eligible to receive a new Regional Pharmacy Transition Allowance (RPTA). However, Narrandera pharmacist Mel Close has warned that while that information made it look pretty rosy, the additional funding was based on the number of prescriptions dispensed per year and was not what it seems.

Australians are losing more than $1 billion a year to debit and credit card scammers and electronic thieves, causing more and more Clarence Valley ratepayers and others to ask why the Federal Government is urging the country towards a cashless society. Research undertaken by the CV Independent has revealed that many Clarence Valley bank card holders cannot understand why this "convenient banking" is being favoured while it continues to be open slather to criminals’ intent on stealing their hard-earned monetary assets.
