Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party MLC Robert Borsak and SFF Goulburn Branch President Andy Wood have called out the hypocrisy of the Liberal member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman, for her recent motion in the NSW Parliament about the proposed Tarago Incinerator.

The proposed incinerator at Tarago will burn 380,000 tonnes of Sydney’s waste each year, including plastics, municipal and industrial waste. It will operate 24 hours a day for 30 years and locals, including Councillor Andy Wood, have vehemently opposed it due to the toxic fall-out in the Goulburn region from the incinerator.

Wood said, “Unlike Mrs Tuckerman we didn’t need the NSW Chief Scientist and engineer to tell us what was the bleeding obvious, that an incinerator like this should not be in the vicinity of food production areas such as those in the Goulburn-Tarago-Canberra area. The proposed incinerator will wreck the niche and boutique food and wine industry that is growing in our area”

Mrs Tuckerman has been a Member of Parliament and representing Goulburn since 2019 and was the Minster for Local Government in the Liberal-National Government from December 2021 until March 2023.

MLC Robert Borsak said “It is the height of hypocrisy that Mrs Tuckerman is now saying she is listening to regional communities by standing against the Tarago incinerator. She had 4 years in government, including two as the Minister for Local Government and did nothing!”

Borsak and Wood have both pledged that the Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party will continue the fight for rural and regional NSW including opposition to the proposed incinerator at Tarago.
