King and Flinders Island flights will continue to soar

Regular passenger flights between Hobart and two Bass Strait Islands will be extended following the success of the Sharp Airline services that were introduced in September 2020 ... Big bang theories rife as mystery puzzles locals

Cape York may have been the latest location of a meteor air burst, a phenomenon that lit up the sky and caused an airborne aftershock that rattled buildings across the Peninsula. Residents in Weipa, on Cape York cattle stations and on the east coast at Portland Roads have all reported seeing the sky light up in a turquoise-like colour at 5.50am on Friday.

Bullying, harassment and racism is rife at Rio Tinto, report alleges

A damning report into the workplace culture of Rio Tinto has revealed that almost half of the miner’s global workforce have been bullied, harassed, or racially discriminated against. Alarmingly, more than 30 per cent of Indigenous employees that responded to the independent review reported being confronted with racist behaviour in the workplace, and almost 30 per cent of women reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment.

Is this the future of Cape station?

With Queensland adding a new national park to its collection with the purchase of The Lakes, a former grazing property north of Hughenden, there are thoughts that Bramwell Station in Cape York could be the next in line. Last year, Bramwell Station was thought to have been sold to the state government for around $11.5 million, but the deal fell over at the eleventh hour as both parties did due diligence on the sale.

Three day sickness in cattle alert

Cases of Bovine Ephemeral Fever, also known as three-day sickness, are being seen in cattle on the NSW North Coast. The disease has been confirmed via laboratory testing in a herd within the Kyogle shire, and there have also been reports of clinical signs of the disease in the Tweed and Brunswick shires. It is expected that the disease will move south as the season progresses.

Floods hit Queensland clubs

Last month, the Queensland weather lashed across the State and flooded two of our clubs, Tansey Bowls Club and Maryborough Services Memorial Bowls Club. Tansey Bowls Club was hit the worst, with about a metre of water inside the clubhouse. Tansey’s President Rainer Marschall said they had to remove the wall linings so that the walls could dry out properly.

Abalone fishers enjoy third fishing hour this season

Abalone fishers took advantage of the third fishing hour of the West Coast Zone abalone fishing season, including at Yanchep Lagoon. Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club and Marine Rescue Two Rocks volunteers were at the lagoon this morning keeping a watch on fishers searching for the reef-dwelling mollusc.

The Territory Labor Government has awarded a $15 million tender to Northern Territory company GT Builders to construct homes in the remote community of Maningrida ... Penola funding boost and awards

Penola PA & H Society celebrated the opening of their new pavilion in October 2021 after receiving a $79,540.00 boost in Federal Government funding to support the build at McCorquindale Park ... The $700,000 funding pool was shared between four show societies in the South East to renew showgrounds and pavilions ... Penola was considered the centre of the South East in the mid 1800’s and so, the first regional shows were held there in1864,1865 and 1866.
