Power prices pressure farmers
The state’s peak farming body has asked the NSW Government to invest in small scale on farm renewables to ease cost pressures for food producers. The cost of electricity had nearly tripled in the past decade.
Ampilatwatja teachers become the students

Teachers became students for a day when the Barkly Region Sport Education Coordinator, Pam Dillon visited to present professional development in the form of First Aid, CPR Update and Physical Literacy training. Staff members worked hard after school being assessed for First Aid and CPR after completing an online component.
Art and history combined in unique exhibition
Murrami woman Dorothy Roddy is June’s Artist of the Month ... Documenting the history of the Riverina Welfare Farm for Boys and the POW Camp 15 eras between 1928 and 1947 at what is now Yanco Agricultural Institute, the exhibition features 12 oil paintings which should appeal to art lovers as well as history buffs.
Call for stock stop rehearsals from WAFarmers
Indonesia has 280 million people of which 38 million are farmers. Between them have 16 million cattle and 9 million pigs spread across 6000 inhabited islands, extending 5,500km East to West and 1,800km North to South. As the borders open and the world starts travelling again, we can look forward to the return of the 50 flights a week between Bali and Perth. Each of these flights will carry the risk of the transmission of Lumpy Skin and Foot and Mouth Disease into Australia.
Roads, pools, housing – Tatiara seeks feedback on budget

Almost $4 million on road construction, $70,000 on swimming pools, $268,000 on buildings and $1.4 million on industrial estates these are a few of the projects listed in the Tatiara District Council’s 2022 23 draft budget and business plan... Other spending includes $675,000 on worker accommodation which is jointly funded with the Federal Government.
Feral pests targeted
The region’s landscape board is hoping to minimise the feral deer population with the help of a cash injection from the Federal Government. The Limestone Coast Landscape Board (LCLB) has received $344,000 to build on its existing deer control initiatives through the Supporting Communities Manage Pests and Weeds program.
Final tally: $1m blow out for new library
Chris Oldfield. The modern new Naracoorte library has a final cost to ratepayers of more than $3 million... During Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s May 24 meeting CEO Trevor Smart unveiled the $2.44 million end cost of consultants, construction, fixtures, fittings, furniture, art, signs and landscaping for the new library.
Wellbeing coach a good fit for farmers
Serena Kirby. Fitness and wellbeing coach, Louise O’Neill, has been named as the WA winner of the 2022 AgriFutures rural women’s award ... Her new business model involves one-on-one coaching and live online group ï¬tness workouts conducted with clients via zoom and telephone.

It is described as ‘a thing of great beauty’ and with the bow and stern stems as yet untrimmed looks like the Norwegian faerings used by the Vikings and probably earlier Scandinavians.
Ploughing for gold

Local resident, Wayne Clayton, and fellow Australian, Daniel Gladwell, have been selected to represent Australia in the World Ploughing Contest later this year... “The very best international ploughing competitors and their teams will be battling it out on Irish soil in September to become supreme World Champions,”: World Ploughing Organisation general secretary, Anna Marie McHugh.
Statewide blitz results in Darlington Point arrest
Police arrested 45 people, seized eight firearms, a hydraulic press and more than 20kg of MDMA and other prohibited drugs during statewide raids targeting organised crime under Operation Hawk last week ... Police located and seized 1.2kg of cannabis, more than $30,000 cash, ammunition, mobile phones, prohibited weapons and a safe. Inquiries are continuing and charges are expected to be laid.
Environmental flooding for Gunbower
Victorian Environmental Water Holder (VEWH) commissioners will start to flood Gunbower Forest with 74,000 megalitres after ecologists raised concerns of declining health of red gums after four years without a flood ... Audrey Dickins, local landholder, passionate environmental advocate and member of the Central Murray Floodplains Environment Group, believes the problems with the Gunbower Forest are more complex than the ‘just add water’ approach.

New floodplain harvesting bill introduced

Sand slug choking the Murray River could impact water delivery within 10 years: MDBA
Delegates at the River reflections annual water conference today heard about the impacts of the massive sand slug in the Barmah-Millewa reach of the Murray River and the consequences to water users, the environment and local community if no action is taken to address it.
Rex adjusts regional network
Rex has confirmed the withdrawal of services from five regional centres: Bathurst; Grafton; Lismore; Kangaroo Island, Ballina ... "Qantas’ well-publicised predatory actions on Rex’s regional routes have meant that Rex no longer has the ability to cross subsidise these marginal routes. It is unfortunate that these regional communities are the collateral damage of Qantas’ bullying and heartless behaviour. This behaviour is all the more unconscionable after receiving over $2 billion in Federal bailouts over the past 2 years” : Rex’s Deputy Chairman, the Hon John Sharp AM.
