Powers tougher than ASIO for Landscape Boards

Some public servants could soon enter homes without a warrant to "seize documents” including computers, phones, diaries, and bank statements under calls for tough new laws for SA Landscape Boards. Harsher than laws for Federal Police against terrorists if enacted, "authorised officers" could also make “an information discovery order”, compelling businesses and individuals to provide evidence without a court warrant. If enacted, public servants employed by councils on behalf of landscape boards could also “seize and retain” declared species of animals passing though farms and private properties.

Lovegrass control measures

What is the outcome from the motion about the invasive African Lovegrass? This was the question on notice put to the chief executive officer of the Tatiara District Council by Cr Miles Hannemann during its July council meeting. Fears of the invasive African Lovegrass fully invading the Tatiara district and potentially destroying the agriculture sector are growing … Cr Hannemann described the situation involving the spread of the lovegrass as “scary and a superspreader”.

Coach Bill Gorringe couldn’t be happier and prouder as he witnessed an amazing match display by ‘The Club Hotel – Clifton’ Wattles Under 18 girls’ squad, "they played a smashing game defeating Collegians in Warwick territory".

Silhouettes – Allora Photography Group’s July topic

Members found the July topic "Silhouettes" harder than expected. The independent judge was Tryg Hellander who awarded "Honour" to two entries, Michelle’s "Man and Dog" and Glenda’s "Trumpeting in the Night". Michelle’s candid capture of "Man and Dog" was described by Tryg as "Razor sharp, clean, interesting, unmistakable and pretty much what a silhouette story looks like.

Wycheproof Golf Club hosted its Annual Tournament the weekend just gone. Fantastic weather brought out good numbers on both Friday and Sunday, over 120 golfers for the 2 days ... Men’s “A” grade winner, Dick McLennan and Greg Robinson, 44 points on countback...

Golf tournament

The Maldon Golf Club Annual Tournament takes place this coming weekend ... is expected to attract players from across the state and beyond. Club Secretary Bob Briggs says that up to 180 golfers from over 20 regional clubs will be represented. "Most district clubs try to support each other," he says. "They come to Maldon and have a day away."

Laidley Saleyards to cease operations

The Laidley Saleyards will cease operations next year due to the high cost of maintaining a safe and compliant facility. Lockyer Valley Regional Council voted to close the facility at the August Ordinary Meeting of Council ... Deputy Mayor Chris Wilson said a range of issues impacted the decision.

Stolen memorial plaques found near Tweed Heads cemetery

More than 100 memorial plaques stolen from a cemetery at Kirkwood Road, Tweed Heads have been located and reported to police. A groundsman at the Tweed Heads Lawn and General Cemetery located the 102 plaques piled up and hidden behind barriers on the outer perimeter of the grounds late yesterday.

SunCable has achieved another major regulatory milestone, receiving approval from the Commonwealth Government for the Australian component of its flagship project, Australia-Asia Power Link (AAPowerLink) ... $100m Indigenous Murray-Darling Basin water fund faces devaluation amid rising prices

A Murray-Darling Basin water advocacy group says $100 million in federal funding for Aboriginal water entitlements is expected to lose about 30 per cent of its value before it’s spent. The Murray Lower Darling Rivers Indigenous Nations group wants traditional owners to be given control over the funding to restore ancestral sites. What’s next? The federal government says it is taking "proactive measures" to make sure its water purchasing programs don't drive up water prices.
