Dylan started bowling about 11 years ago when he was at his local club, Moulamein Bowls Club. He decided to have a go with his Grandfather’s bowls and next thing you know he was playing pennant.

Cup weekend

There have been two fashion parades, one at Panacea Estate, with items from Trés Doux Trés Beau, featuring beautiful clothing from the Duchess of Walmer. The other involved Beaton’s Stores and Poppy’s of Maldon displaying their gorgeous clothing at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation as part of the ‘Paint the Town Pink’ fundraiser.

Arts About – Unearth your local potter

Nancy Whittaker. On 13 and 14 November, several local ceramic artists are participating in the annual Australian Ceramics Open Studios. They include Tracey Koolen, Andrea Ebsworth, Felicity Ceramics and Angie Robinson ... I recently met up with Ellen Hansa, the longest serving local potter in the area. She told me about how there used to be four local potters 50 years ago, who made a living entirely by selling their utilitarian pottery, such as mugs, bowls and plates for every day use.

Native foods business blossoming in the Mallee

The Victoria Minister for Agriculture Mary-Anne Thomas visited the Belar Nursery and Bioculture Resources Centre to announce the Labor Government’s $2 million Djakitjuk Djanga Program in partnership with the Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations ... The Djakitjuk Djanga Program has supported 13 Aboriginal native plant businesses to overcome key resource-related barriers towards the commercial production of native foods and botanicals.

The Andrews Labor Government is securing more accommodation for seasonal workers in Mildura, with the completion of a new facility to help tackle workforce shortages in the Mallee. Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas has opened the newly refurbished Ramsay Court Worker Accommodation facility in Mildura.

Port Fairy has claimed silver in Australia’s Top Small Tourism Town during a livestreamed event. Six small town finalists from across Australia have competed for the top honour, with Berrima, NSW receiving gold in the population of 5,000 or less category. Moyne Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade, said that he was proud to see Port Fairy as a finalist in such prestigious awards.

On interviewing Gary I realised he isn’t, in technical terms, a resident of Maldon. However, I think given Gary has given each of us advice on coughs and colds, sores and nappy rash for quite a few years, we can make an exception. Gary bought the pharmacy on April Fools’ Day in 2009. He found out about the sale of the pharmacy through his networks and came up to have a look during the Folk Festival in 2008.

Thornton made Bowls Victoria Country Manager for North West

Kendall Jennings. As part of a two-year pilot program, Murray Downs Golf and Country Club coach, Josh Thornton, has been appointed country manager for northwest Victoria. Thornton will oversee two regions, Murray Mallee and Wimmera, providing better support to regions, clubs and rural Victoria.

Climate Solutions Fund support for forestry jobs
