Pet food factory leaves Evans Head for bigger premises
For seven years, Frontier Pets grew its pet food business from a warehouse in Evans Head. That expansion has been so successful, the business has moved to larger premises in Brisbane.
Cotton Industry Awards announced at Cotton Conference on the Gold Coast
The Cotton industry’s top awards for the year have been announced ... with the top two awards going to Queenslanders. The 2024 Bayer Cotton Grower of the year is Scott Balsillie, farm manager for Eastern Australia Agriculture in Dirranbandi while the AgriRisk High Achiever award recipients are Steve and Bridget McVeigh from Dalby on the Darling Downs.
State Fire Commissioner opens Allora Facility
Officials from Queensland Fire Department were in Allora on Saturday for the recommissioning of the Allora Facility which houses both the town and rural brigades. Members of the Allora Rural Fire Brigade were happy to show off their new medium attack firefighting appliance which was handed over to them as part of the formal proceedings.
School sport Australia national champion
Allora swimmer Bailey Harm has returned from the School Sport Australia Games as a National Champion after winning the 16 years 100m Freestyle in a 52.63 second swim. Bailey dominated the blue ribbon event from start to finish.

Calls for urgent Wind Farm Code reform
AgForce has said it is increasingly concerned that delays to urgently needed reforms to the Wind Farm Code could put agricultural landholders at potentially crippling financial risk. Queensland’s peak representative body for farmers is disappointed that despite a review of the Wind Farm Code last year, the Queensland Government has not released any reforms to the Code since.

On the other side of the world to all the action in France, Mount Rascal 17-year-old Lien Dekeyser has won a gold medal in Malaysia as part of the Australian Under 19 Women’s underwater hockey team. Lien, a year 12 student at Toowoomba Anglican School, plays for the Toowoomba Redclaws Underwater Hockey Club.

A dangerous incident at the Lakes Creek Road Waste Management Facility last week has reignited the importance of proper battery disposal. While loading household recyclables on a truck bound for the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), a lithium-ion battery ignited within the load.
Better to be safe than sorry committee calls for 3G shutdown delay: Canavan, Rennick
The Senate’s Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Reference Committee ... called for a delay in the shutdown of Telstra and Optus’ 3G networks until more is done to work out how many devices could be impacted by the shutdown (including non-phone devices). The committee has heard from a variety of different stakeholders about the impact the shutdown will have on devices that hadn’t been considered when the decision was made, including medical devices, emergency phones in elevators, and even surveying equipment.
An entertaining long lunch
The Allora Regional Sports Museum held another one of their popular Long Lunches at the Commercial Hotel on Friday. Queensland State of Origin Legends Shane Webcke, Trevor (the Axe) Gillmeister and Ben Ikin entertained the crowd with plenty of good football yarns including the many tricks played by Alfie Langer on his mates.
A champion – going for gold
That’s Allora’s Matthew Denny who is currently in Paris for the Olympic Games. In 2015 Matthew made his Senior Debut with the Australia Team for the World University Games. Since then Matthew has been improving with each national competition and breaking records along the way.
New Agriculture Minister – same Labor policies
Leader of The Nationals and member for Maranoa David Littleproud has said the appointment of a new Agriculture Minister won’t change the Federal Labor Government’s litany of disastrous decisions that have impacted the agricultural sector in just two years. Julie Collins has inherited the agriculture portfolio after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reshuffled his cabinet and moved Senator Murray Watt to Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.
Downs riders follow tradition of horsemanship
Endurance riding competitions are not a spectator sport but the event is one that is loved by horse owners because it is one where the rider works closely with their horse not for the fastest time to cover a course, but to cover the course in a time that is within the horse’s fitness capabilities … Neeve Whittaker, 17yo of Silver Pinch, completed the 160km on El Sharana Sherif in 14:26, to place 1st in the Junior division.
Treeless housing estates impact liveability
It would seem that the first step in developing a new housing estate is to bulldoze the land to a point where no trees are left standing, but is this good planning or a danger to the health of future inhabitants? Images of new housing estates in the local area generally present a frightening view of houses on small postcard sized blocks of land without a tree in sight or the room to grow one.
East Greenmount fire a warning sign
A significant team of firefighters was needed to battle a large grassfire which broke out alongside the New England Highway between East Greenmount and Eton Vale on Saturday afternoon ... Mr Greer said the region is carrying a heavy load of fuel in the form of dry grass as a result of good rain earlier in the year, a recent extended dry period and a number of severe frosts.

We are alarmed at the current situation and what this could mean for the vital service Rex flights provide for our remote and rural areas ... These flights are fundamental to residents in our part of the world, and we need these services to be maintained.
