A large number of students, families, past students, past teachers, and community members attended the 125th celebrations at Bunker’s Hill State School.
This included many staff and students who were here in 1999 at the school’s Centenary.
Our longest serving Principal, Mr Jim Tiernan, was alas unable to attend the celebrations, but teacher aides Miss Pam Fleming, Mrs Roslyn Saunders, teachers Miss Sharon Rummell and Miss Evelyn Pohlman were in attendance.
Another local with a keen interest in the school is Mr Roy Blackwell, a past Shire Councillor and who was head of the Centenary Committee in ’98 and ’99.
He was unable to attend because of ill health.
His family has also been part of the school community for a very long time.
There are several fourth-generation students at the school, whose families also attended on the day.
The students and staff made it a magnificent day, with performances by the choir, the instrumental music group and soloists, and Team Gym.
The P&C provided a barbecue and bar, for visitors to meet and greet over food and drinks.
There were displays of photos covering the past 25 years and the time capsule buried at the Centenary was uncovered and the contents displayed for all to look over.
It was a great day with many visitors reminiscing and laughing about their school days at Bunker’s Hill.
