Members found the July topic "Silhouettes" harder than expected. The independent judge was Tryg Hellander who awarded "Honour" to two entries, Michelle’s "Man and Dog" and Glenda’s "Trumpeting in the Night". Michelle’s candid capture of "Man and Dog" was described by Tryg as "Razor sharp, clean, interesting, unmistakable and pretty much what a silhouette story looks like.

State Member for Hill, Shane Knuth ... introduced the KAP’s Crocodile Control, Conservation, and Safety Bill 2024 into Parliament, taking a no-nonsense stand against the escalating crocodile threat in North Queensland. The Bill is a response to constant calls from North Queensland communities and places a premium on human life by implementing aggressive measures to mitigate the risks to human life posed by the increasing crocodile population.

The Laidley Saleyards will cease operations next year due to the high cost of maintaining a safe and compliant facility. Lockyer Valley Regional Council voted to close the facility at the August Ordinary Meeting of Council ... Deputy Mayor Chris Wilson said a range of issues impacted the decision.

Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM came to Nobby last Friday to honour the work of Sister Elizabeth Kenny with the official opening of the Nobby Museum’s Timeline panel depicting the development of Sister Kenny’s work over time. It was standing room only inside the Nobby Museum as an excited crowd estimated at around sixty people waited for the arrival of the Queensland Governor and her husband.

The $3.7 million research project … investigates how to better utilise existing and emerging ag technologies to improve drought resilience for grain farmers.

Australia's national science agency CSIRO is calling on all Aussies to record koala sightings in the Koala Spotter all, to help build the most accurate national population count to date ... The latest koala national population estimate according to NKMP is between 224,000 and 524,000. The next estimate is due in March 2025.

Red Imported Fire Ant detections have increased around the NSW border since the highly invasive pests were found at Tallebudgera, 6km across the border into Queensland, in July 2023, with 7 additional sites resulting in an Emergency Biosecurity Order that has just been extended. Implemented on July 17, 2024, the Biosecurity (Fire Ant) Emergency Order made by Chief Invasive Species Officer, Scott Charlton, was extended on August 6 for another 6 months.
