Member for Farrer Sussan Ley calls for nuclear power stations

Member for Farrer Sussan Ley has backed the call for nuclear power in Australia ... “So they're trying to do everything with renewables, which is why it's not working. We're saying, take the time to keep gas in the system while we need it. It's not nearly as detrimental as coal.  Then build nuclear, because, while expensive to build, it's very cheap to operate, and nuclear is zero emissions."

Confirmed – GBH redevelopment to go ahead

Almost $15 million will be allocated towards the $263.8 million Grafton Base Hospital (GBH) redevelopment over the next 12 months after NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey handed down the NSW State Budget for 2024-25 last week. Member for Clarence Richie Williamson said the Budget papers "lock in the redevelopment with $14.7 million in the coming financial year, and $222.2 million over the next four years."

Toddler attacked by kangaroo in South Grafton

Within seconds, it was over. But for Connie, it was a frightening moment in time which felt like eternity. The South Grafton mother recalls watching her two-year-old daughter Georgia and her partner Daniel playing with remote-control cars together in the backyard ... a juvenile male eastern grey kangaroo raced up to the little girl and kicked her over before turning around and striking at her again while she lay on the ground.

Rural Commodities Index lifts again as wheat prices rally: NAB

The NAB Rural Commodities Index* has continued its upwards momentum, increasing 1.4 per cent month-on-month in May, driven by rising prices for wheat, barley, canola and lamb. The Index is now around levels last seen in February 2023, according to NAB’s June Rural Commodities Wrap released today.

AWU calls out ‘cowboys’ in push for safer farms

The NSW Assistant Branch Secretary for the Australian Workers' Union (AWU) Ron Cowdrey has slammed farm owners and managers that he describes as ‘cowboy operators.’ “If cowboy operators want to come here and roll out modern slavery like practices, or bully and underpay staff, or flout our customs laws and import pests and endanger our entire industry, then they can think again,” he said.
