Prison sentence for woman who bashed uncle with metal pole
A 44-year-old Alpurrurulam woman has been imprisoned after pleading guilty to causing serious harm to her 55-year-old uncle ... The sentence was suspended on the conditions she not drink alcohol, be under parole for two years and nine months, be subject to the Alternative to Custody Program for two years and nine months, be under the electronic monitoring program and not leave the Northern Territory without permission and not approach her uncle.

Good season for agri sector poised to continue
Australian agriculture is set to become a $100 billion industry by 2030, though positive conditions will need to be backed up by increased investments. According to NAB and Agrifutures Final Report on the capital needs of the industry, the $63.3 billion agribusiness sector is on track to meet the $100 billion target set by the National Farmers’ Federation.
Rising prices boost farmers’ confidence
Local commodities prices have continued to show gains despite some global measures softening, while the beef market can expect further record prices, according to Rabobank. The outlook will provide more confidence for farmers, after its recent quarterly survey showed 2021 is shaping up to be an “instrumental” year in the long-term prosperity of the Australian farming sector, with almost 90% of farmers expecting the strong business conditions to either continue or improve over the year ahead.

Bounty for feral deer?
Chris Oldfield. A bounty on feral deer similar to Victoria’s bounty on foxes was suggested at the Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s June 22 meeting ... Landscape SA chief Steve Bourne said of the feral deer problem, "It's huge. There is a recent senate inquiry report which shows that we are still in the very early stages of deer emerging in Australia as a pest. Fallow deer could take over the bottom half of Australia. We need to get on top of it."

Auction for Aid
The winning jockey of the 2020 Melbourne Cup, Jye McNeil, is getting behind the fundraiser, ‘We’re Here for Langy,’ to assist hometown boy James Lang and his family. James was left paralysed from the waist down as a result of a motorbike accident earlier this year. Jye is donating all proceeds from the auction of a limited edition 2020 Melbourne Cup – Twilight Payment framed display to the fund.

The reflection of blue skies and thousands of ducks on the Lakes are a welcome sight for locals and all of us watching from afar.
