The SA State Government’s latest Crop and Pasture Report indicates South Australian grain production is set for 7.98 million tonnes, close to the 10-year average of 8 million tonnes. SA Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham said South Australian farmers may be able to capitalise on unfavourable conditions in other world grain producing countries.

The 113th Cleve Annual Show will be held on Saturday October 16th ... There will be horse events, shearing, side shows and the Whyalla Car Club bringing 20 plus classic cars to be paraded before being displayed.

Gabrielle Duykers. A Victorian kelpie has snagged the highest bid at South Australia's first working dog auction, selling for $29,000. On September 26, the inaugural Lucindale Working Dog Auction was held in Yakka Park and saw more than 400 people in attendance. Of the 30 kelpies up for grabs, two-and-a-half-year-old Josie took home the top sale price.  

Chris Oldfield. Australian Rare Earths Limited (AREL) has established a regional headquarters in Naracoorte as part of its plan to develop a rare earths operation in the area ... The next phase of exploration at Koppamurra is set to commence in October and will consist of further exploration activities, “to expand upon the previous shallow drilling program and will progress to include various studies and technical work, to help determine a development concept”.  

The McKenna family behind Midfield Meat Group has acquired the Wanderribby feedlot and grazing and farming property in South Australia, four years after the vendors initially put the asset to the market with hopes of as much as $10 million. South Australia’s third-largest feedlot, the 2,311-hectare Wanderribby has been used as a custom feedyard, feeding for three main clients, including at times Coles and Woolworths supermarket contracts, and the yard utilised in the past as a live export depot.

A large dryland cropping farm on Eyre Peninsula in South Australia has entered the market after being held by one family for four generations. Telusa, the 988-hectare property, is located in the Cleve Hills, 21km north of Cleve and 164km north east of Port Lincoln and has been in the current owners family since the early 1900s.

The webinar will run through the basics of how water is shared between New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia and the factors that influence each state's allocation decisions.

Up to 60,000 tonnes of softwood logs will start to be shipped off Kangaroo Island to support South Australia’s forestry sector and booming housing construction industry, with applications to the Construction Softwood Transport Assistance Program (CSTAP) now open. The CSTAP is jointly funded by the Morrison Coalition Government and Marshall Liberal Government and provides assistance to freight bushfire-affected softwood logs salvaged from Kangaroo Island to the South Australian mainland and then to sawmills with immediate capacity to process structural timber.

Racing SA has announced that jumps races will not be scheduled in the South Australian racing calendar as of next year. Despite the efforts of all industry stakeholders to maintain a jumps racing program in SA, declining participation levels and horse numbers have made the industry unsustainable and unworkable.

Robert Onfray. Before I started our travels, I recall hearing and reading stories about the parlous state of the Murray River and its basin. These calls are always louder when there is a drought. On our trip, I have spent a lot of time on the Murray, the Lachlan and Edward Rivers, as well as the Murrumbidgee Irrigation area. We also stopped at Wentworth to observe the mouth of the Darling into the Murray River.

Historic grazing properties in South Australia’s Barossa have sold for around $15 million to producers outside of the region looking to expand. The properties included the 2,549 hectare Red Creek property at Keyneton, and the adjoining Karinya Station at Moculta, spanning 2,047 hectares.

New South Wales is leading the nation’s charge towards a low-emissions energy system after the NSW Government approved stage one of a $1.8 billion transmission  line that would link NSW and South Australia’s energy networks for the first time. Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said stage one planning approval had been granted for the NSW Western Section of Energy Connect, a 900-kilometre transmission line that would run from Wagga Wagga to Robertstown in SA, with a spur line to Victoria.
